How to switch weapons or keep the one I am using.
I noticed that when I went into combat my primary weapon, Vira, was not being used. Instead a Saw was being used. I died swiftly.

That caught me by surprise. I did get Vira back but it was too late.

How to I select the weapon I want to use and not have the game switch them for me. Which brings up ammo. How do I preselect the ammo I want to use.

PS. I play at Rookie level but I found it almost overwhelming. I barely survived combat I was ready for.

Hey Met a Demon Once,

Do you have some additional information where in the game this happend?
Are you playing with mouse/keyboard or controller?

This should not happen on it´s own at any time, so happy to look into this for you :)

Only time you will use the range weapons is if you aim, as in using right mouse button then fire. Melee defaults left button. I didn't end up in that situation but the game kind of fails to inform you. So aim to shoot and don't aim to melee.

It was early in the game where the skin like stuff was blocking the way. I went into a cave and put something together and on my way out I was attacked by two creatures.

I hit the right mouse button expecting to fire Vira but I had a Saw instead. I took this creature down. A second popped up and I got lucky I think and hit the left mouse button which brought up Vira. It happened so fast I am unsure what happened. I did take the creature down but died shortly afterwards.

This is a game design problem then if I have to manage which button I use to get a different weapon. There is a reason I play Rookie. I have no hands to speak of.

While we're trained by our playing in many games that you have to hit a weapon select key first, including for melee, and I've only just started Scars Above, not being able to hip fire your weapon (which is often an instant option used with close quarters surprise attacks) I'm not convinced is a good mechanic in this game. It is a different approach, perhaps it works with the way this game is designed. As I play more will see whether the melee weapon is consistently good against whatever surprise attacks occur, or if they've given sufficient distance most times that aiming first to be able to use VERA is workable.
