Can you still play it?
You can now add the game for free on steam with this method https://www.reddit.com/r/FreeGameFindings/comments/11me8tt/steam_game_last_year/

and I remember watching some youtubers 3-4 years ago play this game and it seemed pretty fun, and i was wondering if there is still option to host private lobbies for your friends or is this game really dead.

Soon, actually. There's a mod which aims to restore functionality to the game dropping in a few weeks.
