when you exchange money to purchase a game here on steam you are PURCHASING that copy of the game, NOT renting it. steam is a digital storefront, not a digital rental service.
go subscribe to gamefly if you want to rent video games. if you can't tell the difference between gamefly and steam then i dunno if anyone can help you.
I know that I am replying to a comment which is not exactly new but I just wanted to inform you that you are wrong and maybe you shouldn't shout out your wrong knowledge so loud and with so much confidence.
Technically you don't buy any geam on Steam you are just purchasing the licence to be allowed to use them and if Valve for whatever reason decides to end their services on some day they could instantly withdraw those rights from us all.
Same goes for Playstation Stores. Microsoft and similar btw.
Because those companies are making huge financial profit with their services and they don't want to load a huge ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ onto themselves it's everything than likely that this will happen anytime soon but yes, technically we are just renting games.
my condolences for your comprehension disability. i suppose it is more difficult for some than others to grasp the concept of ownership and how the act of exchanging X amount of a currency to purchase things works.
though it does raise the question of how you're capable of playing video games without that ability.
edit: also, for further clarification that typically goes over the heads of people like you. when i say i "bought a game" on steam, i don't mean i literally purchased the IP itself. i mean i purchased a copy of the game files.
but since you can't comprehend this, this edit is more for other people who can and, for whatever reason, might be wondering.
