Benefits of Substance Painter on Steam over Adobe?
The Substance Painter on steam is seemingly a lifetime access, while Adobe only offers subscription based services. I see the same applies to Substance Designer.

Are there any outstanding benefits on making the purchase on steam over Adobe? And is it likely for the perpetual license to be discontinued from the 2021 edition?

Regarding the subscription version, you can't buy Substance Painter by itself for a subscription can you? I believe you used to be able to but can't find it anymore.

Debating whether to buy Painter on steam or the subscription version. Not sure if I would need Designer/etc or just Painter

Choose one that's cheaper for you. And you can also skip few years updates in steam, update every 2 or 3 years, to save money. You don't always need latest version for competitive edge, only update when there's super important new feature for you.

well i waited and just bought the 2021 version. After purchase, I noticed it was coming out in Jan, but bought it on sale anyway, i have now got 2020 and 2021 versions in my steam library which I'm not complaining as i wanted the 2020 one originally but getting 2021 was a nice bonus.
