Yeah, same. 21:9 worked fine for me with no black bars. Matt Bozon said in an interview that they made sure it worked in both directions beyond the usual 16:9 boundaries, adding some extra content to pad it out when necessary. That was actually part of the Apple Arcade support, since it needed to look natural on both the iPhone (wider) and iPad (squarer).

That happened to me first time the game started too. It's not 21:9 its just stretching it out horizontally. Look at how wide Shantae is. Change it to windowed then back to fullscreen and it will be black bars.

I finished it and didn't notice it was stretched... :steamfacepalm:

Personally I'm fine with the black bars, but I wish it would just have them on by default instead of stretching the game. (or at least have an option to have it stretched for those that aren't bothered by it)

Yeah the option really needs to be there, instead of having to change res and switch it back and forth from windowed to full screen every time.

There's a ultrawide fix on PC gaming wiki
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Shantae_and_the_Seven_Sirens

Be aware that the fix introduces blurriness and HUD elements get aliased
