Ok.... did they buff catch rates or is this a lost cause?
Hi. I asked in another post about gold traps replenishing and I really wanna play this game and get all the "mons" but I feel ripped off cuz I bought this game so long ago I dont even remember how long it was and I dropped it cuz catch rates were a joke for rare monsters.... yeah. Anyways, I didn't get an answer after 18 mins and I looked at how many other questions were answered and it's looking grim. I don't know if anyones still even playing this anymore but if anyone is, Please tell me this: did they fix those ridiculous catch rates or are they just saying "Sorry! Buy our sequel!" Cuz I'm not paying them another penny until I get my moneys worth from this game!

I don't know anything about the old catch rates since I just picked it up but I have been catching everything I run across with the regular traps and have not had a problem at all, even with the Mega Rares and whatnot. Can't tell you about legendaries but anything else seems totally fine. Really liking it so far.

The problem isn't the catch rate, but the spawn rate.
Now, you can go tens of thousands of battles and not see a single 'special' monster.

Theoretically that could be true but I think it is unlikely, in my experience I have over 200 but less than 300 battles and I have run across 2-3 of the specials/starters in addition to the one I chose. Each one is only found in a certain map area, so it may take you 50-100 battles in the same map to get one but there aren't that many. I haven't specifically been looking for any of them and have run across them just while leveling normally. I have no doubt that trying to complete everything 100% would take a long time and some luck, but that is true of any game where there are 300+ things to catch.

I personally had a hard time catching rare mons, but my brother told me about a trick where I just put it to sleep and spam regular traps and its been working like a charm. I didnt even have to weedle its health down! I even caught a legendary with this method! (not a main legendary) I love this game again! totally getting the sequel! :)

Ive had no issue with mega rares, but havent even seen any specials in the wild yet. It all comes down to status effect and carefully lowering the health. For me this is JUST as easy to collect as the real pokemon games, however ive never tried to 100% on any of them so for legends and specials, I cant speak. Mega-rares and below are easy to both find and capture with the right tactics.
only just reached the jungle; but im catching everything in every route before moving on; my experience:

- capture rate only sucks early on, since you get gold for wild encounters you end up with way more gold than you could ever spend on nexotraps... the only times ive struggled catching something is because ive been too scared that anything i hit it with would kill it so i was just throwing at full health

- if you do kill everything whilst hunting youre gonna end up severely overlevelled; recommended to swap team around a lot (evolve stuff)

- mega rares arent as rare as they sound

- specials are rarer than mega rares

- you can find a legendary early on (i found at level 8), put up a little bit of a fight to catch but still less than 8 traps

- i actually had more trouble with certain rares (cavel and clonkey in particular) than mega rares/specials... and i have a theory as to why: mega rares/specials can spawn anywhere in that area (and often throughout multiple areas) whereas rares seem to grass patch specific, like in one route i found multiple perchara (mega rare) and blizo (special) before i found a single cavel (rare), probably because theres two types of grass and cavel only spawn in one (whilst the mega rare and special spawn in both)

I'm relatively new, but got over 200 battles between the first 2 towns and seen not one special yet. Guides say there is one there.

I found Vulazy on the first map of the game.

There's an item you can get about halfway through the game that claims to increase rare 'mon spawn chances, and while ive not been paying too much attention to what drops, it has seemed to do as it says, though how exactly it adjusts the spawn rates i couldnt say.

At any rate, if you do find you're having trouble catching the rare guys and dont want to brute force it, wait until you get that item and you might have better luck.

Personally, i went with the brute force option anyways and got plenty of cash for items that i still have plenty of as i near end game.
