On the right this shows a formation that takes a bar counter up to a wall then follows it round to a corner counter onto another wall, on the left it shows the individual counters I used to make the formation so that the end counter only extended on one side.

The only drawback to this method is a slight gap where the red topped counter meets the counter on the other wall, if you are building in sandbox you can always use the move tool to close this gap.
The only other way (which can be done in story mode) is to place a normal corner counter in place of the red topped counter and change the top to be 'extended' only AFTER it is in position, the extra bar top extension will disappear into the wall but may show through very slightly on the far side of the wall and need covering up.
