Custom job with or without cleaning?
Dear comunity, what do you prefer, jobs with a lot of trash/cleaning, with a little bit (up to 10 stains/trash pieces pro room), or without cleaning at all?
Personally I find cleaning job annoying ;D

For me personally, the more stains and trash, the better, provided that they can all be found and none of them are hidden in a wall or floor or something.

I prefer a "wrecked house"-a property in a state of needing a lot of work, including stains and trash, walls to repair, doors and windows to replace, surfaces redone, etc. I see a lot of properties involve "finishing" and decorating. While I appreciate these, particularly the work involved in creating such nice homes, those aren't my preference. Unpacking boxes is the absolute worst! Thank you for asking the community.

I agree completely with this. Lots and lots of a great variety of work is the most enjoyable. I'm not a fan of unpacking boxes either, but sometimes it's necessary to put things in a box if you want the player to be able to place items that would otherwise only be available in sandbox mode. Items that are available in the store in story mode shouldn't be in a box, imo.

One reason for placing story mode items in a box is if you want multiple different textures to show up on a single item such as books, if you BUY multiple books of the same size they will all have the same default texture, plus they will all be in the default horizontal position. If you PACK multiple books of the same size each with a different texture, and in the vertical position, they will unpack that same way.
I recently uploaded a mod that had an unfinished mosaic made from the small, square children's blocks, to finish it the player needed to unpack the missing blocks with the relevant colours applied, therefore they had to be unpacked because buying them would have only given blocks with the same default colour.

I agree that some creators do pack items unnecessarily that could just as easily be bought if they are a single unique item with a texture change, but sometimes packing items is necessary for the build. On a side note packing items only available in Sandbox mode can lead to a bug that causes boxes to appear empty and unsellable.

Wow, I thought that everyone loves unpacking :D It can be annoying, if it's too much, for example the whole kitchen dishes set.
As for me, I hate painting the ceilings and mostly skip it.

Thank you for your answers though! :p2cube:

I have made several mods and I always try to incorporate a little bit of everything into my builds EXCEPT ceiling painting! I also hate painting a ceiling in 'play' mode (it's so much easier in sandbox!) As for unpacking the only time it REALLY annoys me is when it is furniture items that could just as easily be a buy item, mainly because I have no idea WHAT is in the box and I have no choice in the order they appear!

Excellent points. Hadn't really thought about it that way. But then, I haven't made any mods so far, so I don't have that experience yet. I'm working on a few things, though, so I hope to upload some mods of my own before long, and I'll certainly take your points to heart.

Another interesting thing about packing items - if you wire up a set of lights then pack them along with their light switch they come out of the packing box pre-wired - I did that with my 'Hospital' mod where I wanted 6 beds to each have their own light and light switch (as well as additional bedside items) with another central light for the whole ward which I set as a bought item. Doing it that way meant players only had to wire up one light and not 7!

Yesterday I played a custom job, where I should unpack the plants and now I understand what you mean. I had no idea, how many plants there are in the box, so I couldn't plan the distance between them. Unforunately, I often did the unpacking plants jobs too, because I thought, that it's easier for the player to understand, which plant is supposed to be in which pot :D

An alternative to putting stuff in boxes is to place fully decorated furniture somewhere. I played some jobs where this was done and I really appreciate it! Unboxing really sucks for all the reasons mentioned here already ;).

In general, I love jobs that really have a big before / after effect. Dirt, Trash, taking down and building walls - doesn't really matter as long as there's a nice, visible difference :). One job I played was a very modern, cool, minimalized style house that turned into a cozy beach house - not much dirt, but SUCH a big change, that job was great!

What I see very often in jobs now are pictures of the finished rooms placed inside the house. In some cases that's quite useful, for example when it comes to larger kitchens and figuring out where the cabinets should go or when there are a lot of different surface finishings in one room. But in most cases, I don't like those that much, since it somehow takes out a bit of the creative process...

Oh, and please don't let us place a roof in custom jobs :D. They are a pain in the a** in sandbox mode already, but with the kind of limited options to resize and replace them in a job, it's REALLY awful to get them right :D.
