Are there no kitchen islands?
I put these in every house in HF1 because there was rarely room for a table in the kitchen, but I'm not seeing any in the store, although I went to one of the jobs and there were islands in that kitchen, so I'm a little confused.

Use your flipper sense tool and Edit. You can extend the countertops on cabinets in the edit menu. There are usually about 4 countertop choices. Some will extend the countertop past the cabinet to give you the kitchen island look. Use the cabinets, extend the countertop and you have a kitchen island.

There are. If you pick a counter, there are 4 options for the style of counter top. Rounded and rolled edges and island or standard countertop :)

Welcome. Depending on what you were using last on the Flipper Tool, the actual thing you want on the Flipper Tool is Change Style. You'll get Edit to make your changes from there once you aim it at a cabinet. I want to say the countertop choices are top left in that menu with the ability to change the top, base and front colors and also the handles below it.

Isn't that for sandbox mode? If not, I wasn't aware you could do any editing of furniture in story mode. Or have I been missing out on a new feature? I've been building islands simply by using cabinets

Yes, you can edit in story mode and have been able to since release. If you haven't been doing so then you've missed out on my favorite tools! Pull out the flipper tool and click R to get all the other tools, use the change style tool to edit items. I do this all the time since the first item I pick never ends up matching the room perfectly and if you use the change style tool you can see the item *in the room* while editing it which is very helpful for me.

As Unseelle said above. Check your perks to make sure you have all the Flipper Tool functions unlocked.
A couple more tips in case you don't know. The Store has a Filter and Sort button at the bottom right. The Change Style mode has the Go to Store button there instead - useful for buying a new version of a damaged item.
