I feel the lighting system especially stupid.
Apparently you can't light candles anymore, all the lamps that aren't hanging under the ceiling don't work.
That takes (for me) the decorative appeal away. In the first part, I found it very nice to only illuminate some rooms with candlelight. Just bedside lamps or something.
Apparently that doesn't work in the demo (or I'm too stupid, it may well be).
I'm not sure what you mean by "cartoony", but I can guess your reasons:
1. The objects look big, but the ones in the original HF weren't exactly small either. The problem is, that some of the rooms in the demo house - namely the hallway, kitchen area, corridor, laundry and stair landing - are Too Tiny. If they were a bit wider, the player character wouldn't have needed to stand right next to the wall!
2. The colours are nice and bright. For some reason, some video game studios believe realistic graphics = shades of grey, brown and khaki. But life is colourful - just look at a garden in spring, or the fruit isle in any supermarket. It might be a good idea to implement a colour saturation slider for players who find bright colours uncomfortable.
3. The interface is big - a godsend to people with small monitors. Making it scalable, with 3 or 4 size options, could be a good solution.
4. The lighting is more realistic than in HF1. The demo has a "sunny day at the seaside" feel to it, but that's what the setting of the demo house is, isn't it?
A demo IS basically the game that will released.
It's neither "beta" nor "EA", it's "Demo" - a "preview of what's to come".
Thus, the probability that extensive changes will still take place is relatively low.
According to the announcement, it should be released this year. The demo will only run for a few days...you don't have to be a genius to guess that the release will be relatively soon. There is no time for such massive changes.
Unless, of course, they read this forum, realize that 4/5 of all demo players think it's stupid, and quickly change their schedule. But well.... that didn't work out with the farm dlc in part 1, so....
But hope dies last
I can't judge about their discord communication because i'll do a damn to subscribe to any go*da*n game in any discord channel (or twitter, or youtube, or live stream, or whatever)
Did you fill out the survey at the end of playing the demo? And the extended one that is offered after that? They will definitely be reading those, and I also know they are reading these forums because a dev responded to my post yesterday to thank me for my feedback.
As for demos, this is one house on an isolated island with perfect, unobstructed lighting. There are also six months of the year left – six months and ten days, to be exact. With no set release date beyond 2023, they have time. Again, with core systems, most things left are quality of life, set dressing, bugs, and dealing with placeholder things.
We’re looking at less than half the game. Different places will have different lighting. Lighting systems (turning them on or off) probably aren’t finished. The demo is to aid in feedback and see user response and bug checking. The entire UI can change in a week’s development time. Entire systems can still change.
4/5 is a crazy number. The displeased are louder than the pleased. On top of that, a lot of the feedback translates to, “Different art style to House Flipper 1, I hate it!” which isn’t genuine feedback for the game, just personal preference. Don’t get me started on the gender debate, which is something people wanted in House Flipper.
Might want to see a doctor about that
