Why does a game about flipping houses need gender?

Why do you need to know what junk I've got? What, are the NPCs going to be sexist to me if I choose woman? It feels almost deliberate if I'm honest; with all the politics surrounding gender, it feels like this was just a subtle way of proclaiming where they stand on things by including a binary choice for something that does not functionally matter in a game about building houses.

Even going the From Soft route (e.g.: Elden Ring) and labeling the two body models "type A" and "type B" would be an improvement. Bringing back gender-neutral options like "zombie" and "cyborg" would help even more.

If it doesn't matter just pick one and move on, its not a political stance or a way to tell everyone who doesn't fall into those 2 that they aren't welcome. Its a basic gender screen just so they can construct sentences using the amazing tool of "He" or "her".

When did I say anything about anyone being out to get me? I said they were putting their opinions in, how is that a conspiracy? Aren't y'all the ones who think adding a third option is political and shoving it in your faces? How is this any different?

I agree, but I honestly think the BEST way is to either do away with gender entirely, or just make a specific character that the player is playing the game as and choose that character's gender like any story-based game does if they're adding this because of some sort of story mode or something. Even if the character is literally named John Smith and is the blandest person on the planet so everyone can project onto him, at least then there's SOME excuse for this "gender" nonsense being added.

When did I say anything about being against a 3rd option? I wouldn't care if they add an extra option, like I said, it doesn't matter and for someone who isn't going to pick it, it really doesn't matter. but I wasn't up in arms when I had to play a guy (I think) in the first game, because who cares.

the developer is Polish they wont care about this stuff

i don't want to offend anyone but the things America cares about the rest of the world either doesn't care about or sees as non issues

prime example is kingdom come deliverance before it came out Americans were moaning that it didn't have minorities or gay romance options this view confused the Czech developers and they tried explaining that there would have been none during the games setting

that pissed these people off more

devs assumed that these people still just didn't understand so they brought in 2 univercity professors in bohemian history to also explain that these people would not have been in the region

this pissed them off yet even more

at this point the developers were too confused and didn't understand what these people wanted so they just ignored them

I'm referring to your group in general. As in the group of people who get all pissy when someone asks for more options and says how that's making the game too political. You seem to be spouting the same things as others in that group, so I am assuming you are a part of that general grouping as well.

Also, really not a fan of such a bad-faith argument at the end. "THIS is what you got out of it??" as if this was the only thing I cared about. No, it was something I noticed and wanted to give feedback on, which is the point of a demo last I checked. Unlike some people on this planet, I do have enough braincells to care about more than one thing. But if I put all of it into one post, it's going to get far too lengthy and wordy. Not only that, it will lessen the perceived weight of each opinion.

But I'm assuming you're above the mental age of a ten year old, and thus already knew that and were just saying that in an attempt to illegitimize someone's concerns because it just happens to be something you didn't care about.

This exactly!! Like this is the DEMO for crying out loud, a demo is meant to include like, the most important things to show off. Clearly they, for some reason, think gender is one of the most important things to develop, otherwise it wouldn't be in the DEMO. I would be absolutely fine if it had been added to the full game or something, but it being in a demo shows that they are REALLY prioritizing it as opposed to, you know, actual game features people asked for.

THAT is why it feels so intentional to me. Because they went out of their way to add it to the demo and make it the first thing you see. That is not a normal thing to do for a demo for a game about house renovating. I don't see why it needs to be a thing at all, let alone how on god's green earth it could be so important as to be the first thing in the demo.

I thought it was refreshing to see people sticking to the traditional genders. After all the majority of people is not confused about their gender. And we don't need a small group of people who is confused, to bully us around, to convert us to their convictions.
