Is this game good for learning about Mechanics?
Can this game really teach you about cars and how to fix them on your own, like basic oil changes and such?

kind of a yes and no, you can learn somewhat how thing go together, but at the same time you couldn't substitute this for an automotive based college course
The true answer is NO! But, it can help you learn a basic understanding of how a car is put together. Unfortunately, there is too many missing items in most these part assemblies and lots of things that just not present in the cars at all. Plus, some of the tasks are super basic--point and click. There's no use of a Torque Wrench either so, you miss out on the fact that most things are supposed to be tightened only to a certain amount of pressure. No wiring, no gaskets, very limited lubricants, no hoses or belts. If you just had no clue about the mechanics of a car, it could be helpful to get you oriented a bit... that's it.

Another game similar to this one is called 'Wrench" and goes into a 'little' more detail. So, you might check that out too. This one is my favorite for how the controls work and User Interface working on things. But, it's just about a fun waste of time.
On a scale of 1-10 how realistic is this game?

As somebody who basically knew almost nothing about the insides of vehicles I'm enjoying this game quite a lot

However, many parts of various cars are all same-y looking like Brake pads/Calipers and stuff. That can't be like that in real life, right?

Well... yes and no. In real life, a spark plug is a spark plug is a spark plug... all cars take basically the same looking plugs. Same can be said about brake pads and drum brake shoes. The main difference will usually be in their sizes. So, yes... a lot of parts look VERY similar across multiple cars. This doesn't include exotic cars and some oddball vehicles that may have a lot of very custom parts. And, there are some aftermarket performance parts that can look quite different. But, in general, parts are pretty similar. This game kind of generalizes most all the parts though and in real life you'd notice a little bit more differences in some parts across different makes and models. But, it's a game.

It's basically a "chill game" with very good graphics it's not meant to be overly technical, simulation games in general are about keeping your mind active in a relaxing way while completing tasks, and making the old look new, and being rewarded for a job well done while just passing the time. I'm retired now and I play 3 games regularly Car Mechanic Simulator, American Truck Simulator, and House Flipper they all have very good graphics I can, and have played them for hours at a time, I have to really watch it when I'm playing House Flipper, the time really goes by quickly when building a home from the ground up or renovating a huge trashed out home.
@Smoke79
I have that house flipper but, was not real impressed with it. I was hoping for a bit more control over the design and layout of the houses. I read that the farm dlc added some mechanics to open up a little more control over that but, haven't played it yet... just picked up that DLC not long ago. I generally go for building games where you start block by block from ground up but, House Flipper is a much simplified version of that.
Yeah it's really weird how some games, no matter how good they are, just don't click with us even if they are supposed to be close to the user's tastes

I know PCs, I know how to assemble them, I know all the parts, not a huge expert in this field but I get around just fine. At least, I'd like to think so.

I did not enjoy PC building simulator. Just something doesn't feel right. Maybe the absence of music I like, which I happen to like a lot in CMS21 (green radio), maybe the atmosphere is not there, dunno, something just didn't click with me and here I am, enjoying CMS21, when in reality I know almost nothing about cars

How does that even work lol

You would like House Flipper 2! it has better mechanics and you can build from the ground up in sandbox mode and you can completely rebuild and redesign all the houses in the base game!

It's like a convenient and overly-general crash course on car anatomy basically, it will show you the general shapes of parts so when you see tie rod sitting on the side of the road you know someone had a bad day
I feel like car mechanic simulator is good for casual car enthusiasts.. not really good for hardcore care enthusiasts or mechanics.. it lets you know what parts are in cars .. and sorta how they go together .. but it keeps it very simple and casual .. you don't need to worry torque wrenches and pressure.. and good luck replacing parts in real life when they are broken or there is like no clearance / room to access parts.. or someone decides to weld something they shouldn't together .. I'm a casual car enthusiast, but I've seen some youtube videos from real mechanics. if this game was any more complicated or complex I don't believe it would have anywhere near as many players.. Sometimes I do wish they went a bit more technical / complicated with it ( maybe as a separate option / difficult ). But I also wish they kind of went more in depth with the business side too. Like training apprentices, expanding your store, having more then 1 store.. be nice to start your own dealership too, buy cars from auction / junkyard, do them up and sell them as second hand or something. would be really awesome to have a car museum you could donate classic cars too .. have car shows you could show off your cars too. hell this game could be something truly unique and special .. if they did more with it then just simulate fixing cars.. like attend rescue calls for cars that break down or something.. maybe let us go out to peoples places and fix there cars ( although that would require them making an actual world and actual NPC's to interact with ) .. also wish there was a world and npc's and cool things to do .. cool houses to buy .. kinda wish there was a world to get immersed in and lost in. I could go on for hours .. I love this game it just sucks that is has soo much potential but never lives up to it.

1 of the big things I notice with all the good simulator games I like -- house flipper, car mechanic simulator, pc building simulator, what not -- is that all they really do is simulator 1 specific thing.. there's not really a world to get immersed / lost in .. there's never any NPC's to interact with, and there's soo many other cool things you do with the core aspect that they just don't let you do.. example .. pc building simulator .. all you do is build pc's .. you can't even do give aways .. or contests .. sponsor streamers / youtubers .. etc etc .. for a pc building store / repair store .. however they wanna say it .. you also never really do any IT work.. you can't really fix pc parts and become like louis rossman.. you can't really build a bunch of pcs and host a lan gaming event for example .. you can't train apprentices .. you cant expand your store.. you can't sell individual pc components .. you can't own multiple stores .. there isn't really much on the business side of things either.. there's nothing to really do with your money / save up for .. like a cool car .. or a cool house .. furniture for your house.. there's no world to explore or get lost in .. no bars to get drunk at .. no kfc to get fat at .. there's no npcs .. hell even deliveries .. they just appear in the corner of your shop .. you don't need to worry about delivery days / storage none of it .. like its very basic but it has so much potential to be amazing. i think also like car mechanic simulator .. its on the more casual side of things ( probably for the best - imagine having to cable manage in the game .. or worry about too much pressure or not enough pressure when mounting cpu etc etc )

I love house flipper, but it is limited in the core design. I'm thankful for that but also not. I'm terrible at designing things and building things.. but at the same time ... wish there was more too it . like 1 thing that always made me wonder .. why are walls never damaged ? no holes in them? why are roofs always in perfect condition?? why are stairs never damaged?? floors never damaged?? walls never damaged? for a game about flipping " houses " it feels more like an interior designer game.. like you don't really " fix up " the houses and furnish them to sell for profit .. you usually just clean up trash and throw some furniture in there.. also not having a world really hurts this game in my opinion.. how cool would it be to drive around the city and see the houses you fixed up and sold as your on your way to the next house. there's also really nothing to do other then " flip " houses. The game is good don't get me wrong, but it could be truly amazing.. so much potential.. imagine you could rent out the houses you flip instead of having to sell them .. imagine you could host neighbourhood BBQ's or something.. Imagine you could host a party.. imagine you could make a real estate company that buys run down / abandoned houses and fixes them up to rent / sell.. like there's sooo much you could with the idea of it .. but all we get is interior designers lol

They're just getting started with House Flipper 2 I noticed with the Xmas update they added broken windows to the game! and we can resize more items I'm excited to see what DLC's they'll be adding in the future!
@random smile
Totally agree with all that. House Flipper is more like Interior Design Flipper. Maybe with #2 they'll add more of those type features... make it more of a true 'house' fixer upper game. Same can be said about this game in regards to fixing cars... it is pretty simplified. But, that's also a good thing. While I'd like a bit more depth, I wouldn't want it to be too close to realistic... or it would get pretty tedious. There are some aspects that could be expanded upon though... like part groups--similar to how shocks are a part group. But, mainly adding the things that would make modding easier... like more suspension types and exhaust parts... keeping engines and gearboxes as separate entities so we could mix n match for making 4x4's--especially the older years with the old engines.
