Other than that, just got to belt around the junkyard for the maps, ignoring junk and cars, then do the same in the barns, get lucky find one in the first "pile", or have to open every "pile".
5 maps can lead to 25-30 barns or just 5, all depends on your daily sacrifice to RNGeezus
Every time you go to a barn, you can find another barn map in there somewhere. You've got to search the barn until you find the map. It takes a bit of time but you basically get one barn map every time you go to a barn, which means infinite barn maps. No need to install mods.
Also points needed to level up increase with each level, so from about L150 most of your level ups will come from the chests, can jump 2-3 levels with 5 chests Vs doing +10 builds with all the scans.
Have fun.
