Wow, that sounds great! Please let us know here when the MOD is ready. Thank you so much for doing this!
Unity is not the limiting factor.
As an Audio Engineer/Sound Designer myself I was very curious as to why they let certain sounds through QC, that V6 in the Jaguar just sounds awful. I own a car with a supercharged V6 and Full Exhaust system and it sounds incredible, I would've at least got the source sounds from something like that, ya know? Luckily there are ways to replicate these sounds but then it's up to the sound designer to have enough attention to detail to recognize all of the intricate elements that make up the fundamental sound of said engine, the number of cylinders, cams, intake/exhaust ports, the diameter of those ports, the air rushing sounds, the explosions inside the cylinders, metal moving, spinning parts, vibrations, etc... A lot more work but much better results.
P.S. stuff that was added to CMS 2021 could've honestly been a DLC or maybe even a free update to CMS 2018. The game looks the same, plays the same, heck there's barely any extra content. If this was almost any other developer I know, this stuff would be a free update, not a WHOLE 30$ GAME.
I absolutely agree, a lot of things in CMS are a bit redundant and over simplified. I'd love to see more complexity, especially in any newer version or DLC. I would love to see things like faulty PCV valves that affect engine performance, more tuning options (something like the engine/car builder in Automation), fluid lines such as coolant/oil/fuel, Spark plug gap (manually, not a click and its gaped type thing, it would fall under the tuning category), more intake piping, BETTER ENGINE SOUNDS, tone changes with different sized exhaust diameters, intake sounds depending the type of filter system such as stock vs cold air intake, etc... These, and more, are all things that can be implemented, but dependent on the competence of the developers to take the extra few steps to create something better and not just settling. If its more experience they need, I'll do it for free just to make the game that much more enjoyable.
Please keep us posted on what your progress is with this mod!
I stopped buying dlc's when they released the "Mazda dlc", because they didn't added the 4 rotor engine after i commented on the suggestion thread. They just needed to create a longer crankshaft, add 2 more rotor housings and 2 more rotors. How hard could it be?
That "Drag dlc" was ridiculous. 12€ for a dlc for a game that's worth 20€, are they crazy?
I'm not spending another cent on this game, i'll just wait for the CMS 2024 and hope it'll be a big improvement over this one, otherwise i'm not buying it.
These are all the suggestions I've made in the last year, and none of them have been made:
- Multiplayer for racing, task sharing on the garage and auction
- Teach us how to reprogram ECU and tune Carburetors instead of that lame mini game.
- More engine swaps for all cars. 4/6/8 Rotor engines, LS3, custom made engine blocks like on dragster cars,4 turbos V8/V12
- Add CNC machines on the back to rectify and port engine heads
- Nitro
- Straight Exhaust
- Drag springs, coilovers, ride height adjustment
- Weight reduction. If your going to drag race, you should remove all the door panels, passenger seat, backseat, smaller fuel tank.
- Break swap
- Cables
- Gaskets
- Hoses
- Performance break pads
- Fix seats, steering wheel, windows and headlights
- Interior detailing
- Better driving
- Better engine sound
- Open the gas station as an investment for passive income.
- Ending those annoying mini game to repair and scrap parts
- Having special missions to make crazy modifications to the cars like on "Monster Garage" video game
- Not having dumb missions, like having to replace a broken caliper on the front right, a break pad on the front left, a disc on the rear right and a wheel bearing on the rear left. How the hell does that happens? Come on.
Also lol boxer engines don't sound like boxers because of their engine configuration. It's because they use unequal length headers (headers are called exhaust manifolds in game) that create different sound profiles via the pulses from combustion events traveling down the chamber. You can make an i4 'burble' if you put a header that has unequal runner lengths and all modern Subarus use equal (or mostly equal) length headers these days so they will sound no different than any other similar 4 cylinder.
Hope you're still working on this. Also, as I was working in Car Editor and checking config files, I seen in the code lines where certain engine sounds could be applied based on the games currently available engine sounds. What I don't know is, what are the codes available currently? For example, in one of the configs is code line "Sound= R4" in the [6 Eng] section. Have you extracted a list of available sound codes that could be used in the configs to modify our cars? Btw, would also be interested in your sound mod. You could even put up an option to donate for the mod when you host it on Nexus... if you wanted to ofc.
