Realistic engine sounds
I think the game is missing a very important factor for mechanics lovers, and that is the sound of the engines, both in poor condition and when they are fully tuned.

I would be willing to pay for a DLC that adds real sounds from each engine.

I see that they continue to release new DLC, but there is still no news of any DLC that gives realism to the driving of the car, or to the sounds of the engines.:steamsad:

I really don't think those are things you should have to buy as a DLC - if there is any improvement possible it should be addressed in an update to the game. After all that'd be an improvement to the product you already paid for, not an add-on. I'd love to see it but I wouldn't offer them more money to do it, on principle.

I do believe it is possible for it to be created as a mod, though I suggest asking the developers first on doing that type of modding. I've seen it done with Arma using the JSRS soundmod so perhaps sound mods may be possible with this game.

I understand your point, and I also think that would be the right thing to do. But the game has been on the market for a long time and it didn't bring those improvements compared to 2018. What I think is that if they charge you for a brand's dlc, they should include the real sounds of the engines of those cars, and If possible, also the sound of a bad engine. You really lose a lot in the simulation without the sound of the real engines.

I think that expecting improvement from the modding community is wrong, since we are paying for the game, it is something that should be included. For that they charge us for a SIMULATION game with a transcendental lack in a game of this type. I hope the developers read the forums and improve this aspect of their game.

I am actively working on a realistic engine sound mod as we speak. Modeling every aspect of the engines from rough running, bad tunes, good tunes, broken parts, performance vs stock parts, cam timing differences, cylinder fire sequence differences, high compression vs low compression, turbos, superchargers, intake/exhaust length & shape, etc... For example a Boxer engine will sound just like an actual Boxer engine because of how it's built, same for different sized and shaped I4's, v4's?, v6's, v8's, v10's, v12's, and so on. I will be open to any and all input/suggestions, requests, modifications. I want this to not only be enjoyable for myself, but for everyone else who cringes at the current in-game sounds haha :-D

That is awesome! Keep us informed of your progress, please!

I also think that the Unity engine is very limited.. that's why I'm hoping they switch to Unreal on CMS 2024 (one can only dream, right?)

realistic engine sounds SHOULD be part of the program. I mean c'mon , how many versions of this game have there been? I can understand some of the "lawnmowers" sounding like a mouse farting, but not the massive V8 from the real muscle cars.
Pentakor Oct 2, 2022 @ 12:27pm
It's unfortunate that in 2022 we have a game with 8-bit console sounds, when they could take "inspiration", not to say they can reuse sounds from old Need for Speed games, or Forza to give it even a higher level of realism.

100% agree here. Love the game, have a ton of hours in the game and love the way the cars look but the engine sounds are absolutely terrible. Especially when your a car guy. I own several classic Pontiacs and have spent most of my life going to shows and races. It seems obvious to me they spent very little time on the engine sounds and have no plan to improve them.

The audio is an immersion killer for me too. I am definitely interested in this mod. I would only make a small suggestion for dealing with a large project like that. Start simple and address the biggest offenders for version 0.1. Like engine start, rev, acceleration, and turnover/dry cough. Then start layering in enhancements as you update and add more depth.

This approach will help with few things. To name a few:
  • Proof of concept and ensuring you can actually use the audio in your mod.
  • Mitigating burnout, especially when it comes to long term maintenance when patches inevitably break your mod.
  • Creating public interest which will help with morale and opening the doors to crowd-sourcing some of the effort.
  • Potentially for crowdfunding through Patreon or some other avenue, which can help with purchasing better equipment, tools, and other costs associated with either recording your own sounds, or acquiring them from asset resellers.

It's great that someone takes the trouble to create a MOD to put more realistic sounds. But at the same time, it bothers me a lot that someone who does not charge a penny for that job has to take the job, and who surely has much less resources than the company that does charge us for the game. Hopefully the MOD advances and the company rewards the author for making such an effort.

The engines should be fired up in the garage for audible checks and timing
Basic feature. Not really bothered about sounds from an engine that never moves
