In Steam, right click on the game, select properties, go to local files tab and press verify integrity of game files.
But are you using mods ? do this happens with out mods ?
Deloren has a few similar problems and both have no red line in top gear, so they just keep accelerating, super hard to beat on the mile at the Drag Strip.
They are some of the oldest mods, best practice is to save often when dealing with some mods and always save before paint booth if trying to paint mod panels, they have a tendency to just vanish from your inventory.
Not sure Verifying files will help with McLaren issues but it is something I do with every mod/config after DL or unsub.
As a side note, if you're after a solid car for the Race Track, McLaren M8B, sits nice and flat and only mild shakes at the 130-140ish mark, all you need to add is gearbox and maxed out brakes (those corners come up fast), however if you also add air filter car comes up to a neat 666HP, already punching in the +1000HP class it serves as a reminder of the beast it becomes adding any more tuning.
My money is on a Steam conflict, the question has popped up a lot since the big recent change to Steam client, I had a couple of games not loading properly after the update, I can't remember what steam settings I turned on/off but stopped having the problem, I'm no computer guru. My next step would be go through and check all settings on steam then reinstall game, if issue persists contact "support", both game and steam.
Fun fact, after writing above comment, went back to the track and had my first full CTD (with this game) but no further issue for many hours of play since. However my suspicion is that it was unrelated to your issue, as I was testing out of spec wheel sizes, game engine doesn't like it when the numbers don't add up.
As mentioned I have had the occasional freeze but not enough to worry about, it happens to most games I've played, turning off cloud sync (for CMS21) reduced the freeze further, so some of the issues maybe network related.
Sorry I can't help further, good luck hope you can play unimpeded soon.
Running out of space in the big shed, recently I had a culling and some configs I haven't touched for a year or more wouldn't open. Some configs would swap names with other configs of a similar type, I lost two of my favourite and oldest track cars to that bug. apart from them, mostly I was more saddened by the loss of profit than having to trim my subs.
Deleted about 20 from my bloated subs, a few more getting side-eyed.
In the past I've deleted some subs but kept the cars in parking making sure not to interact with them in any way, months later reinstalled mod and cars were fine. Sometimes the makers change what engine a car comes with, I have one with a now unavailable engine, IMO a better one, still drives great but I dare not make any changes.
Possibly in your case I would, unsub to all, verify game, start game to confirm (boot) changes, play a bit to see how stable it feels, a quick visit to all locations etc. then revisit sub list and add one per session. to be sure. At the very least it would rule out some variables.
BTW fairly sure Deadbob gets on to the updates fast, the F1 just has it's own issues, always has but it's such a work of art I've never cared about the minor issues.
Drove a Bugatti yesterday per chance, all seemed normal. Sorry got nothing else, I tried.
If so, backup your 'Profile0' folder to someplace else. That's in your users hidden ...\Appdata\ folder so, you need view options set to 'show hidden folders / files.' Then go to workshop (if you have mods installed) and 'favorite' each mod you subscribed and unsubscribe those mods. Afterward, do an uninstall. Close steam. Now go into your pc and delete the folders for CMS... including ones in your users ...\Appdata folder location. Next, use a Registry Cleaner app... something like the free version of CCleaner for example... and do a cleaning on the registry. Restart PC, double check the Registry is completely cleaned. If it finds more, restart after cleaning. rinse / repeat. Once you have a clean restart, load steam, install the game, verify files, launch and test game--creating your Profile again to test.
If game is working good, go ahead and copy your backup of your Profile 0 folder back into your users folder. Say yes to overwrite the one in there--which is what you created to test the game. Do not start game at that point if you had mods installed. You'll need to go back to Workshop and subscribe the mods you had. Otherwise, cars in your garage or parking that were mods will be broken. Once you've re-subscribed those mods, load game up and test again. If it's now starting to crash, you know it's mod related.
