Salvaging Container at rear of garage

Does anyone understand the point of the salvage container at the rear of the garage? I was expecting to be able to repair parts, but that doesn't seem to be the purpose. I have salvaged parts, but what then? The parts disappear from my inventory, what the...? If I can't sell the parts or use on cars, what's the point? If anyone has found the purpose, could you please share? I would appreciate it.

The salvage shed table has two modes; one to break bad parts down into 'salvage parts' and another to upgrade/tune good condition parts using the salvage parts - adding to the star rating of the part.

Repair tables in the garage expansion are used to repair repairable parts.

i wonder if the upgraded parts increase the sell price of the part of increase the sell price of a vehicle?
