Stay away from auctions most of the time if you want max profit. Make sure you have repair tables and welder unlocked.
Folks with more detailed info will probably chime in soon.
Make sure you have all cars set to spawn everywhere in your Settings. You might find some good sh*t on the cheap. Disable travel fees while you're at it. Cheers to the beers.
Vanilla: Morena, and the 4 that come with "drag DLC" buy < 30, sell ~250.
Junkyard buys: without using JY parts build cost < 50.
(using a large inventory of collected junkyard parts saves about 15K on a build)
One star Salvage Auction cars cost a little bit more than Junkyard, but will have more repairable parts and/or if not repairable will have most of the parts so easier to shop for.
My rule is don't pay over Expected Market Value, unless you're sure it will be in the green with a wash and weld. Generally for JY buys I won't pay over 10% of the finished value.
Go to car Salon to check prices, -20% is the best you will be able to get for yourself, mileage makes a small difference.
