Different car variants?

Most of the cars have different car models (Mustang "Standard", "Bullitt"...). What are the differences? Only the kind of engine i can install? I trys to find out myself, but there is no real "rule"...

The same rules as in real life - no rules. It could be just some small visual differences, it could be a different engine. You have to find out each one by yourself.

You can just go to the main menu for the game, and go to the "car showroom" click on any thumbnail of any vehicle that interests you, the one's that are labeled as "car Mods" will have the most variants, and all the variants are listed when you click on the thumbnail and you can study each of the variants and choose your favorite, then you'll know which one of the variants to hunt for in the game

Or in game at Salon, always my first stop after new DL, to get ball park prices before going to auction.
