Possible to get lucky at auction?
The change to get lucky at an auction is what makes it exciting. Are people not paying attention to a hidden gem? Maybe a car with a few bits and bobs under the hood that nobody has seen but you. SO you have a chance to get an absolute steal!

I know this is hard to do in a game but for me the auction feels really static. You never seem to get lucky. You just pay the value pretty much 90% of the time and sometimes you are 5k under the estimated value.

Is there a planned update to make the auction a bit more exciting?

Or am I just super unlucky and is this already a thing?

Kind regards,
Robbert

It was the same thing in CMS 2018. The computer would keep bidding against you until the price was over the car’s estimated value. I’ve always found that annoying. That’s why I stopped buying from auction.

You'd think that would be the reason to even buy cars at the auction, but no.

It is a bit of a shame that there isn't some feature where if you inspect the car enough, you get X% chance to get it under the value. Otherwise what even is the point, you're better off going to the junkyard or doing a barn find if you want to restore a wreck and flip it for profit.

Its still a fool proof way of making money. I buy all the 5 star cars and make between 5 and 49k profit without doing anything to the car.

I would love for the auction to become a bit less static cause this is a really boring way to make money.

Is this a problem for most people? I seem to get cars under value just as much as over value in auctions.

IN 18 you never seemed to get lucky. But I did buy a car at auction 10k cheaper then the set price. Was really surprised. So maybe there is a very small chance of getting lucky

This is my personal profit record from auction. Bought it for that. Check bid x estimated price. Bots really slept for that one I think.

Pretty much yeah, that's the only real reason to go picking at a barn/yard or to an auction - to save money. I don't remember the last time I heard about a used/sub-optimal car going for over it's valuation at an auction, but then maybe I don't get out enough.

I agree that the more info you get on the car by inspecting, the better your chances should be at a lower final sale price. The bidding seems to intentionally target a price higher than it's estimated, and I have all skills maxed out, and fully inspect all cars there I bid on.

I've bought several cars at auction, but am using the junkyard/barn more now as the profit is higher due to what I'd call "broken bidding wars".

This to me feels more like a bug then a feature. But not sure, I am not sure what the developers have implemented.

I am still having so much fun with this game, I own all the previous games with all the DLC and its pretty much my favorite game to play out of all the 400+ games I have.

But the auction just to me feels like its copy pasted and then reskinned. I would have loved to see a bit more new stuff added to it.

Would love to hear from 1 of the devs if there are any plans for a future update to this game mechanic.

I don't know if it's a bug, but I've made a million from auction alone, without changing any car part.
