Report a translation problem
The 2 Mana +1 skill (小周天吐纳)is very useful if you stay in stage 2 for longer - finish stage 1 in 2 turns, and go in stage 3 on turn 7. Keep all Mana and spend it quickly in the last stage.
It's also fine to cast the 6 Mana skill one more time in the second phase, for Mana control. It can be a net gain.
Three other skills can be useful:
抱元守一 ("clear the mind", can be used once only; costs 2+2 Mana, opens up 3 Mana slots for this process, gets +3 Mana the next turn) allows one to hoard more
气沉丹田 (Mana storage, cost 3 Mana, +3 next turn) hoarding!
逆行经脉 ("reversed circulation", once only, costs 2, immediately +5) grants 3 more Mana.
There's also a crafting perk in the alchemy (?) skill tree, 假丹/imitation core, +1 Mana each turn for this process, and boost the life bar gain I think.
Edit: rechecked your post and you probably have all of these already - then you don't need that much elixir really. The few that was granted during the story, plus one to adjust the Mana ratio, should be enough. Although having more sure makes it safer.
The process roughly goes:
turn 1-2: cast the 6 Mana skill once, 2 Mana skill twice, finish stage 1.
turn 3-5: cast the 6- and 2-Mana skills each turn (maybe skip on 6 when see fit; use the storage skill if needed), get some 气/whatever that's translated to (...) to make sure Mana doesn't exceed the limit.
turn 6: cast the slot opening skill (it's fine to do it earlier, but now the extra slots are kinda needed), storage skill. Have four 气 done at the end of this turn.
turn 7 onward: cast the Mana boost skill if you have it, get the last 气 and freely spend the cards for the last stage.
In short 9 core is brutally hard RNG wise for the small bonus it gives. Don't mind it at all unless you are on hard and/or, have alchemy.

Keep using the 4+2 and 1+1 skill for more mana during stage 2 unless you're planning to go into stage 3 in the next round. Only enter stage 3 when you cannot end the current round without giving up mana, which is usually when there're 3-5 rounds left depending on your luck and preparation.

You need the six cores and the two pills digested to maximum tolerance as others have suggested before undergoing the breakthrough.
Turn one to three is crucial. On the first turn, you need to at least get the 2+2 skill and finish the phase one on the same turn. Use luck skill (re-allocation of qi) or reload a save if the qi isn't good.
In turn 2, the 4+2 and 1+1 increased qi per round is crucial. Each turn thereafter, you need to invest in 1+1 skill until transitioning to the next phase. Turn three, you can invest another 4+2. The ultimate goal is having an element cored each turn. That means you have 2-6 turns in this phase. As others have suggested, you can stay in this mode until turn 7 to maximize the 1+1 skill. Make sure to use the luck or reallocation of qi skill to balance out your qi during this phase. You can also use the already cored qi. Do not invest in 1+1 when you're going to the next phase.
If you did 2nd phase right, you should have 3-5 cored on first turn of the next phase with a rebalanced qi/chaos core then use elemental core as needed. Use luck skill/qi reallocation accordingly. the 1+1 and 4+2 at this phase is a wasted investment.
