Defense XP is broken
Since there is no logout timer or anything or item degredation, you can just armor up, disable auto-retaliate, go punch a sheep, and then stand there. It won't be able to put damage passive healing, and you'll just sit there forever gaining defense XP.

There should be a timer or something where you're character is flagged as "in combat", and if you don't attack back for longer than a 10 sec period once an certain enemy engages, you should stop gaining defense xp. Getting attacked by a new enemy or attacking back should restart the countdown. And have it to where a non-agressive enemy disengages and goes back to passive after 30 sec of not returning an attack or something. That way there would be no effect on normal gameplay, but prevent an exploit.

seeing that if you kill stuff fast you don't get def exp and you will not be able to have half way good gear... and the only thing the def skill gives you is able to use gear, so its not like its broken or a exploit. it does not give you hp or make you more powerful only lets you put on better gear that you still have to get.

also around level 60 the exp needs are so high i can have 7 cows attacking me for 8 hours for like 2 levels... so its not really that big of a deal end game

I personally disagree. I don't think it's fun to do, but I don't think it should be stopped either. It's a single player game if someone wants to do something then they should be able to do it, there's no competition or pvp, one person isn't ruining the experience of others just by exploiting or even cheating/hacking. Most people wouldn't even bother afk-ing sheep so taking away the ability to afk for XP doesn't really affect anyone except for those who want to do it.

It's not at all broken in terms of xp output as well, sheep give much less XP than many other options do. I think that's more than enough encouragement for most players to not start afk-ing sheep. It'd be much faster to just sit around quick respawning enemies with auto retaliate on gaining combat XP alongside defense XP. If a player decides they don't want to do that, then that's their choice.

This is just estimation I recorded sheep attacking me and found the amount of time between the start of one attack animation and the start of the next attack. I found that sheep attack about once every 1.75 seconds (about 2057 hits per hour). On hit I received 3 XP, so I would receive about 6171 XP an hour from a single sheep assuming only blocked hits (for some reason I received less XP for taking damage, so I'll just assume it's all 3 XP a hit). I find that 4-5 sheep is the max my armored character can handle before the damage overcomes regeneration. With 5 sheep attacking ~31,000 XP an hour

Gaining XP with the above rate you could make it from 1-20 Defense in less than an hour
20 to 30 Defense (~85,000 XP) in ~2.7 hours
30 to 40 Defense (~271,000 XP) in ~8.7 hours
40 to 50 Defense (~639,000 XP) in ~20.6 hours
50 to 60 Defense (~1,300,000 XP) in ~41.9 hours (1.75 Days)
60 to 70 Defense (~2,350,000 XP) in ~75 hours (3.1 Days)
70 to 100 Defense (~19,200,000 XP) in ~619 hours (25.8 Days)

At the point most people could begin afk-ing sheep they'd likely be around 10-15 defense already, They'd have to spend hours at sheep to see any real benefit (entire days at the later levels). If someone wants to do that, I see absolutely no problem with it, they can have fun how they want.

can you not just cheat your exp gain anyway, its a single player game right, and what is functionally different from your sleep afking exp vs just giving yourself the exp

like i said i don't think its a big deal its only even worth it for very low people so i don't see why it would need to be fixed

I mean, not that far off of splashing training in OSRS. If you want to do it, do it; mechanics are there to be used no matter how cheesy. I want to keep some challenge in the game.

I'd only do it if i do not need any particular drops other wise bossing and gathering is pretty good for defence XP. Also remember everything is multi combat and find the highest level enemy you can sustain.

Grab the healer from the mountain town. Go to the trolls by harshwind and aggro as many as you can. Wait 12 hours, level 100 defence.

Bulwark cliff it's a new area level 50+ to 150 mobs
You want full greywall gear really to go there, you can get by with lesser gear and heal a lot just to unlock the town and it's portals shops etc
BIG step up from anything you face on the normal map the quest to go there is unlocked after taking down the bandit fort in the haywind series of quests
Consider it the last quest before end game

People do the bandit fort too soon and there's no point as if they struggle there all it does is unlock a area where the mobs are at least 30 levels higher and lot more for some
