I would like to know this too since it has not been answered yet.
And lady is a title that females had in medieval times, but not with the political standing of a lord. Meaning females in that political position of a lord, which did exist as a matter of fact, were also called lord. Mostly out of their own wish, because lady was actually a term used for the wifes of lords, so I can guess that female lords didn't like being called lady. I mean, just think about a medieval situation with a new lord, one that hasn't seen your char till now. You come in,and get announced as Lady X from Y. The new lord would think "wth is this? Is the lord mocking me, sending his wife to do the talking?" I think that's the reason female lords prefered the term lord over the term lady.
So, to still accomodate you, in case you'd still dislike that, the dev would need to introduce a new character, with another level of standing in the realm, and therefore also change the complete storyline. Or, introduce a female version of the lord, call her lady (or baronesse, for a female on a relatively equal standing as a lord), and simply ignore medieval facts. Not that I care for either, playing a male, but that would be up to the dev to decide. And, considering the game is still in early access, I'd guess that the devs will at least finish the game with the actual main char, before even considering such a huge change.
If it helps you though, England has, even to this day, the so called "House of Lords", and more than 1/3 of the members are females.
For the sake of the game and player enjoyment, we're not opposed to making it an option to play as a lady. It wasn't done so to begin with probably due to ideas of having the playable character be more fixed and not so customisable.
With that said, it's sadly not just a matter of adding a button into the game. The prologue will likely require slight alteration, we'll need to map out all the places in the game's dialogue where the player's referenced as male and resolve those, and vast majority of the equippable armor models need slight adjustments to give support for female body type.
My humble apologies to all of you who are really bothered by the current lack of this option. I can't promise this will be something to be addressed soon as we're currently prioritising many other things, but it's not missing due to some strict vision from our side.
Thanks for the feedback!
This is something I am glad to hear, and it gives me hope this will eventually be addressed. I Like the idea of the game, I just would of liked to play as myself, or rather something closer to myself. and a female option would go a long way to that.
I just don't believe this colossal task is even remotely necessary.
I'm glad it's on their radar, even though it's not a priority atm.
This pretty much.
"Playing as myself" to me means to make choices that align with who I am inside.
What I look like on the outside is so ... fleeting. And yes, in the real world there's a certain (varying) degree of influence my looks have. But at the same time, they don't define who I am; or at least not to the point that my inner perception of myself is based on that.
Perhaps it's an age thing? I'm in my late fifties and have gone through the usual phases women do ... and at some point you gotta figure out this "inner self" thing or your constantly changing body will really, really mess with you (at least that's my take on this).
Again, let me stress: I am expressing my own opinion , that I am baffled how important "accurate representation" seems to be for some. Because a huge part of why I love gaming is the very fact that I can look any way I want. If I could modify my body like this in the real world, I'd be waving around tentacles before you could croak out "Cthulhu".
Obviously, dev will do as dev pleases. And if a female model was always something he wanted to implement later down the road, why not. But if retroactively introducing a female cha means taking away time from developing the actual game, I must say for me that doesn't sound appealing. I'd rather get more playable content than a different set of jiggly bits.
But then again, I already bought the game ... so there's that.
I wouldn't mind if this game had a female only protagonist. Or a leprechaun only protagonist. We're undead, I really don't want to see myself as that ever.
It''s not a game where you create your own hero, but one where the hero is already created.
