Are all weapons thrown or shot?
I want to like this game... but 5 hours in and i have yet to make it over a day, or gain more than 1 experience point. most of my time has been spent running from zombies, or searching empty buildings.

i did have a few runs where i loaded up on a bow, with arrows even, made some molotovs and had a grenade, burned out a building missed several shots then died.

No, several weapons are used to hit things
To hit something, simply walk into it.

Melee combat is very dangerous, however. Using blank paper or eating... certain foods (It'll tell you.) will give you extra strength, which adds a flat bonus TIMES whatever the weapon's strength mod is.

To give you a tip, press mouse button and walk at the same time to "sprint". If you do both in the same direction, you can outrun everything, but beware the consequences of it all.

Go insane. Eat the cannibals. Lock yourself in a room and drink yourself to sanity, then kill yourself.

Repeat.

i've come across blank paper before that mentions adding to various stats. though none of them work. thanks for the tip about sprinting. occasionally i find a mimic, and i couldn't outrun it. does the strength from odd fruit last forever? it also seems like 'experiences' are not cumulative. most i'm managing a run is 1 experience.

Blank paper consumes experiences (roughly = to the stat you are increasing). Usually not worth it unless you are going for a really, REALLY long run.

Kill mimics and eat 'em for stats, but you lose some sanity. They're weak to thrown weapons.

Odd fruit doesn't give strength, or at least from what I've seen. If it's a stat boost, then yes. If it only gives you a character status effect, then no.

Experiences are only gained through being insane, which also carries the risk that if you die while insane, you lose it all. It IS cumulative, but it also remains in each game you are in; so, it looks like you start with 25, but that is just your total. Be very, VERY careful not to die while insane, however you have to be insane to progress.

Get food. Get water. Get a sanity booster (pills, book, alcohol). Lock yourself in a room. Go insane through bad food/etc. Stay insane for as long as possible; If you feel a presence, consume something that gives sanity. If you run out of food (you have to be not hungry or thirsty, so do it BEFORE you get to that state), consumes something that gives sanity.

As soon as you're sane and have experience, even 1/100 sanity, kill yourself.

Seriously. If there's a monster, it'll lower your sanity and you'll lose all your experience if you die while insane.

If you're hungry/thirsty/starving/dehydrated, you can't regain sanity at all, and you'll die insane if you're not already sane.

1/100, kill yourself. Seriously.

thank you for this generous reply. this could be a intro tutorial to the game itself with how helpful this is. If if remember right odd fruit gave me one strength. whats weird is the 1 exp i got was from picking up a note fragment. but none after that. reading my first note was awesome. and i encountered my first 'prescence' yikes! you're right about the cumulation. just reached a whooping 2!

I just really wish you could light a bonfire indoors. this game is certainly crazy. it might be too hard for me, which i have no problem admitting at this point. your advice is great and i hope to post about better runs in the future

Odd Fruit can give random stats, status effects both negative and positive, regain health, stam etc

Blank papers take 10 experiences to use to increase a stat.

Blank paper scales with the stat, meaning the higher the stat the higher the cost. I blew 77 exp on leveling strength twice when it was at ~30

Experience is also gained while sane for surviving until the next day, at midnight exactly. Surviving to Day 2 gives 1 EXP, Day 3 gives 3 EXP, and Day 4 gives 7 EXP, if I remember correctly.

yall, thank you so much for this info. for the first time today I had a run where I gained 15, and carried it over into the next run. gained 20, then found myself hauling ass from something red that I cannot pronounce, bleeding out, losing breath, and nothing that could bring sweet bliss into a final release. showed my friend this very eclectic game, and am having a blast. thank you

Also, Eldritch flesh can be harvested from dead cats (who don't fight back) and Vampires, who are tough, but they cant go inside, so you can use this to throw ♥♥♥♥ at them and then hide inside and repeat.

Rare strategy that worked for me once when I was cornered and blocked the door with furniture, then used pipe bomb to blast through wall and get out.

By the way if you have about 4 - 5 pieces of food (even rotten) and a glass bottle to collect and boil water, you can go from 0 to 50 xp, then chug 1 alcohol to get sanity back and kill yourself.

oh i can never bring myself to kill the cats. often i kill the dog for em and feed them the flesh. my cat plays this game with me. it would be a betrayal!

haven't played around with pipebombs yet, though i learned yesterday you can fell a tree with a hatchet and break open a house.

do you mean you just continually boil and chug water, or hell, douse the fire to save wood, while insane, to spam xp gain?
Meoman8 Dec 10, 2019 @ 1:04am
Cats are definitely worth killing, and this is coming from a person who likes cats. Cats are evil in eldritch horror situations.

Pipe bombs are great, but they -may- have a variable time to their trigger, I've found it's about 5-10 minutes ingame.

A little off/on topic, sprinting doesn't work anymore.

Anywho, while you're insane, you just get a little bit of sanity over time, roughly 1 per 10-20 'ticks' or minutes of time. By having some food, you simply go live in the middle of the forest, and eat the food when you're starving. By rationing it out, you can live for a lot of time, and therefore gain experience by being insane.

Then, drink the alcohol when you run out of food in order to retain your experience.
