If the owner dies/faints during the boss fight, it doesn't count towards the total. They need to survive. You also can't put two copies on one person.
They can be unequipped between fights. Don't wear them for anything other than the boss fight. ...Just don't forget to re-equip them.
You don't need to unlock all 3 at once, but it's probably easier to do so. I believe the package always shows up at the same point in time (after the 1st boss?), so you should have a total of 5 boss fights in the run
Defeat three bosses without the wearer fainting.
I'll give an example using equips 1, 2, and 3. Let's say that you equip all three to your party (one per person), but the person wearing equip 1 faints. You then challenge the next two bosses and no one faints. Equips 2 and 3 will transform, while equip 1 will have one boss remaining on the counter. If you defeat another boss with equip 1 without the wearer fainting, it will transform. When all three transform, you'll get something good.
with the exact scenario The Wise Wolf describes. Thanks to everyone for giving me the info I needed.
