You need to explain this update/free version confusion
I now have the colmplete version, according to the start page. I only ever had the free version, and did not know of any payed version. But in the game, though it has a new look, it still says free version, and some content is blocked. So what is what here, and whats the difference between free NOW, free BEFORE, and the "full" complete version? To sum up all these confused threads :)

Okay, so here's how it all works:

The Free edition is an updated version of the original Kyle is Famous. It has all the same content plus a little and plus the graphical and some audio updates. It was added to everyone's library that played the original automatically.

The Complete edition has everything (all 117 endings, VO, story editor, etc), and you would only have that if you bought it since it released.

There's only one app ID, so Steam will show the same things in everyone's library, no matter if they have the free or complete edition. That's just a Steam thing and there's nothing I can do about it. :P But whatever the game says when you open it is what you have.

Hope that clears things up!

A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

OH, and also if you get a warning on Steam when you go to purchase the Complete edition for the first time, that's it seeing that you'd get a duplicate of the FREE version and you can ignore it. That comes because we have the Free edition automatically to everyone that played the original game.

That cleared things up yes!

Do you need to but the full version to be able to do all the achievements?

Yes. Steam doesn't allow separating achievements, unfortunately. :(

Hi my problem is related, but a little different. I have the Free edition attached to my account. My BF has the complete edition and normally I can access each of his games via the shared family library. But it doesn't work. I can only start the free edition. We tried uninstalling it on my pc. Then he logged into his account and downloaded it. He then started the game and it was the complete edition. When he logged out and I logged in and started the game it was the free edition again. :(
Is this a known problem with any solution? Couldn't find anything.

Maybe try removing the free version from your account.

Ah. Here's the kicker: The complete edition is considered DLC by Steam. Steam does not share DLC with family sharing if the person being shared to owns the game. Free games are considered owned by everyone. Kyle is Famous is considered a free game. Therefore, the completed edition is not shared.

You could try removing the free edition from your library (google how, simple process), but as far as I understand, it still won't work, unfortunately.

Just to clarify, even if I bought the game before it was free and bought the two DLCs (Santa, Hotdog) I am still getting the free edition and consequently not going to unlock all achievements of this game?

The game's always been free - now we've just expanded it with a bunch of extra stuff. But you might have missed that anyone that bought any of the old DLCs gets the full upgrade for free. You just need to contact Dave@NewBlood.games with proof of purchase.

I purchased Kyle is a Hot Dog last year, but when I tried to send an email to that address it kicked back as not a real address.

Are you sure you sent to the right address? That definitely IS a real address. . .
