You can start from 2 fine, although if you go back to 1 later the jank may be unpleasant.

CG2 recaps the important events that happen during CG1 (the biggest one in the intro screens, the more local faction-specific ones in some of the faction intros). Some of the CG1 factions have died out in CG2, with some new ones emerging.

There's no save carry-over or similar between the two games.

The campaign of CG1 began two years ago in CG2. CG1 has screen-cut combat animations and a simpler game system. The gameplay and system of CG2 are more diverse and rich, but there is no screen-cut combat animation, only chess animation.

If you want a sense of the sequence of the story, play CG1 first and then CG2. If you want to experience more complete and rich game content, play CG2 directly and then consider whether to play CG1 after it.
