Sorry for the quite unclear directions the game gives you =)
The color of the tiles always matches the color of the text that references them (as can be seen here: https://imgur.com/a/QiAKa6W ).
The orange tiles at the start of the level come into play a bit later. Those mark the extraction point for your squad after you download the data.
the area where you start is your exit area. you need to go out and find a blue area then get back to where you spawned to finish the mission.
More than a year later it's still the same? The mission telling me to stand on special tiles to download data, no mention of any other marked tiles and there's clearly marked tiles at the start, yet those are not it..? Gotta say: That really is some poor communication.
No damage done and the dev answer right here suggests that You do care about supporting Your game and its players. No hard feelings. I'm just being honest about a straight out flaw in Your game that ought to be fixable. It might be considered a minor thing (in my case anyway), but I lost that run. It's not the only misleading communication either - for instance I shot at enemies that teleported in, that were visible but not (yet) shootable. Such miscommunications are gone once understood, but when encountered the first time those are major flaws. You know full well how little patience many of us players have with a new game - it either hooks us immediately or we'll trash it five minutes in. No second chances.
That's reasonable, too. Accomplished book critics established long ago that a book can and arguably should be judged not by the cover, but certainly by the first sentence. Beginnings are a magical thing really. Even the tiniest flaw in the beginning is inexcusable. For a beginner the beginning IS the game. Had I lost a slightly longer run over it rather than a first mission only, or had it been my very first run: that may have felt unfair and frustrating. Refund right there. We all got too many unplayed games in our libraries to "waste our time" on second chances.
Everything's fine, sun is shining and there is no problem - just me overthinking things, sharing my uptake. It all comes down to a recommendation to double down on polishing the early game, which is arguably the most impactful part of any game. It's an opportunity to improve things significantly with relatively little effort. In fact if my post is the least bit inspiring I'd value that higher than a fix to a problem I no longer have ;)
Wish You all the best!
I don't want to sound rude, but to completely blunt........ Yeah, it's a bad decision. Then, the fact it was brought to their attention but never actually addressed in-game is just.....
Don't get me wrong, the game on the whole seems pretty cool but death by a thousand needles and all that. Those small imperfections DO count, I just happened to be savvy enough to realize this game has bad communication and searched it the first time I did this mission
