Ira dei Giusti è un titolo di per sè molto valido e piacevole, probabilmente il miglior titolo relativo all'universo Pathfinder che troverete in circolazione, tuttavia...

Owlcat Games è uno sviluppatore ingiustificabile e imperdonabile.

In primis tutti i finanziatori italiani del kickstarter di "Pathfinder Kingmaker", il loro primo titolo, ancora si ricordano di come veniva promessa la localizzazione nella nostra lingua, poi mai realizzata, nonostante si siano intascati senza problemi i nostri soldi.
Seconda cosa, Kingmaker è stato tradotto dal team amatoriale "Tiger Team", in maniera del tutto gratuita, traduzione mai ufficializzata e mai resa usufruibile per gli utenti console.

Ira dei Giusti invece, non è mai stato tradotto, nemmeno da amatoriali, rendendo questo titolo un vero e proprio mattone, debilitando in maniera evidente l'esperienza di gioco e l'immersione nella trama.
Dopotutto per Owlcat Games, siamo un mercato a perdere e la fanbase italiana può anche marcire li, o al massimo arrangiarsi come è solita fare.

Alla fin della fiera è un titolo di nicchia, piacevole, ma vittima delle solite politiche votate al risparmio degli sviluppatori, che mettono sul piedistallo solo le solite lingue, nulla di nuovo.

Ultima nota, relativa invece alla differenza con Larian Studios e il suo "Baldur's Gate 3", che ha investito sulle localizzazioni in varie lingue, creando un vero e proprio effetto a catena "positivo" di passa parola, che ha portato poi il loro titolo al successo meritato.

Owlcat Games al contrario, non prende nemmeno in considerazione le traduzioni già pronte e gratuite, perchè inglobarle ufficialmente nei suoi titoli è troppo faticoso.

Latest patch tries to install LITERAL spyware on your system to sell all your data to third parties. Doesn't matter if a game is a well made and enjoyable to play, this is an absolute deal breaker. Do not buy or play this game until Owlcat backs off from their attempts at data theft.

Ever heard of GDPR, Owlcat?

Premetto che sono un fan di questo genere, amo Baldur's Gate, (i primi due) Fallout, Planescape e i più recenti Divinity, Pillars of Eternity e pure Pathfinder: Kingmaker.
Per questo motivo speravo di trovare un altro bel gioco con il quale passare il mio tempo e, davvero, vorrei dare una recensione positiva a Wrath of the Righteous ma purtroppo non me la sento.

Partiamo con le note positive, il gioco ha una bella storia e tutto quello che desiderate in un gioco di ruolo: Tanti oggetti, tanti dialoghi, tanta personalizzazione del proprio pg e dei compagni, difficoltà molto scalabile che vi consente di godervi la storia oppure tuffarvi nel micromanaging dei combattimenti per trovare la corretta combinazione di pozioni, skill e magie per vincere il combattimento. Sotto questi punti di vista l'ho trovato un gioco appagante. Come mai il voto negativo?

I punti salienti che non mi hanno permesso di godermi il gioco sono:

- Bug: Ad oggi ci sono ancora quest che non triggerano nel modo giusto, alcune molto importanti per lo sviluppo di una parte della storia con i compagni. Spesso le scene "cinematiche" sono molto strane, con pause lunghissime dove si fissa la telecamera messa in posizione sbagliata per dei minuti prima che inizi la scena corretta

- Poche informazioni nel quest log: Può essere un pregio, fino ad un certo punto, ma quando una quest che è segnata come "imminente" (ovvero fallisce dopo il cambio di capitolo) non viene spiegata, non si capisce cosa bisogna fare e soprattutto non c'è un avviso che si sta per cambiare capitolo (in realtà c'è, ma compare DOPO che si è scelta la linea di dialogo che lo fa iniziare) la cosa diventa frustrante. Quando ciò che ho appena descritto scopri che ti preclude un intero percorso nell'ultimo capitolo... diventa infuriante.

- La Crociata: Questo è il punto che più di tutti mi fa mettere il pollice verso. GRAN PARTE del gioco è incentrato sulla Quinta Crociata e, sebbene esista una opzione che permette di saltare tutta questa parte, si è invogliati a giocare questa modalità, sia per non escludere metà del gioco sia perché la modalità Crociata Automatica non ti permette di sbloccare il massimo potenziale. Il problema del giocare la modalità Crociata è che è un orribile schifo, assolutamente sbilanciata e assurdamente pensata male. Prima di tutto se volete giocarla "onestamente" sarà MOLTO difficile per voi creare un'armata degna di tale nome in quanto i rinforzi e i reclutamenti sono assolutamente risicati all'inizio mentre le orde nemiche saranno già molto potenti dopo pochi passi nel mondo. Una battaglia sbagliata può farvi dover ricominciare dall'inizio a creare un'armata e questo vi toglierà GIORNI o SETTIMANE in gioco. Ma non è tutto, oltre alla difficoltà c'è anche lo sbilanciamento. Ad esempio le unità a distanza sono assolutamente più utili e potenti di qualsiasi unità in corpo a corpo, oppure l'incantesimo "Scorching Ray" del generale dell'armata è un must da avere perché è cento volte più potente di qualsiasi altro incantesimo da generale, pure di quelli di livello superiore. Come se non bastasse, alcune abilità dei combattenti nemici sono semplicemente imbattibili. I mostri che diminuiscono la forza fisica dei combattenti sono immortali contro chiunque in corpo a corpo, anche se avete un battaglione di 100.000 unità (non per modo di dire, l'ho fatto con un cheat e non avevano modo di fare danno) quindi vi dovete affidare a unità a distanza/magiche o alle magie del generale, peccato che in una situazione di normalità ci vogliano più di 10 turni per uccidere queste creature giganti e nel frattempo vi hanno distrutto l'esercito. I nemici che pietrificano/bloccano i vostri soldati potranno andare avanti 4 o 5 turni a menarvi senza che voi possiate fare nulla (nemmeno un incantesimo con il generale che non può agire se non nel turno effettivo di un'unità) e anche qui un esercito "normale" ha poche chance. E la lista va avanti con "charme" e altri incantesimi troppo potenti. Non posso credere che questa modalità sia stata testata a dovere.

Il gioco di per sè è anche superlativo. Un ottimo Crpg che nel primo offre una profondità inaspettata che si apre mano a mano che si procede durante le prime ore di gioco. Vasta scelta tra classi e sottoclassi ma soprattutto un sistema di scelte che appare sin da subito decisivo per le sorti del personaggio creato.
Terminato il primo atto però, il gioco cambia radicalmente virando verso una versione diluita di Heroes of Might and Magic. Le Crociate sono di una noia mortale e se non approcciate con il giusto verso tattico anche estremamente penalizzanti. Più volte mi sono ritrovato, prima della conquista di Drenzen, con l'impossibilità di arruolare nuove leve nell'esercito. Consiglio l'utilizzo di una mod e l'automatizzazione delle battaglie per evitare una noia mortale e il conseguente abbandono del gioco come ho fatto adesso io dopo 46 ore di gioco

This is a tough one to assign a recommendation for or against to because it comes so heavily down to person choice. For what it is, the game is well made with heaps of content and customization options for the min-maxers out there. The game's difficulty settings are extremely detailed and provide the opportunity to tailor the experience to your own skill level and interest in engaging with the game's systems.

Where the game falls flat, for me, is more connected to it being based on Pathfinder and the unwillingness of the devs to adapt the ruleset to a PC game without a DM. Mechanically this means an extreme over-reliance on buffing your party before encounters, even random trash mobs by the end of the game. This is because the enemies have very high stats and you need the bonuses to have a chance of hitting them. Many will say that there is a mod that helps speed up this process; but in a well-designed game, this would be a nice little QoL feature, not mandatory.

On a similar note, while the aforementioned character customization options are huge, very little of the options are viable for normal difficulty. Yes, they have faithfully copied this over from Pathfinder itself, but the encounter design negates the majority of the choices that can work. The end result of this is that rather than the game being a tactical experience where you can outplay or out-think a situation, the majority of your success is determined by your party's build. That one build can have 30 AC by the end of Act 1 while another can have 4 is ridiculous.

This and its predecessor are huge games containing zounds of content. I can tell Owlcat puts a ton of love into them. They're doing a lot of things correctly and trying to please a variety of gamers, especially with the turn-based option, and the option to skip the HoMM-esque distraction. Recruitable characters generally defy tropes. The different personalities and conversations make me laugh.

However, Owlcat is an abominable dungeon master.

Encounters are frequently built to murder parties seemingly for the fun of it. The amount of AC, SR, Fort-Reflex-Will saves and HP that Owlcat stacks onto monsters is utterly staggering. Sure, high AC monsters usually have a low touch-AC, but the huge SR eliminates most ways of taking advantage of that. Even with all of the spell penetration feats taken (including the Mythic one), my sorcerer main character (Sorc 4, Rogue 1, AT 5 iirc) was often 50/50 to beat SR when it mattered most.

Owlcat expects a perfect build from players to win encounters regularly, but take a look at the choices made by Owlcat for the recruitable characters. Sosiel, for example, takes the Medium Armor focus feat with a Dex of 10. ?!?!?!?! There's no way to undo this without cheating as the retrainer NPC only allows for the retraining of levels gained after the character has been recruited. Don't get me started on how they allocated stats.

Combat makes this game a slog. I'm tired of spamming Snowball to get around SR. I'm tired of frequent, tremendously difficult encounters that come out of nowhere which provide trivial XP. I'm furious that I'll not be able to see how all of these amazing characters and this story develops.

Somewhere in this mess there's an amazing game, but right now there's too much detritus for me to dig through to reach it. Someday I may come back to it on the lowest difficulty, cheating my face off.

What is up with the EULA? They're going to upload recording software that runs while you play OTHER games? This isn't just the game recording it's own data. You pay to buy this game and they make you agree to this? Paying wasn't enough? Getting closer to a corporate dystopia here. You pay them to steal your data and resell it.
