I knew that, but I am trying to add some perspective at our "outrage". There is enough media around mobile gaming backlash, you would think this would have been a more serious thing to you guys instead of just dropping it like this and hoping for the best.
As I said, if you want "better ads", you don't need to be a mobile game, you need to get players into your game. CRPGs are niche and people don't just jump into them. Hence my idea how. You are not a mobile game, you are not a hype game of the moment. To me that is part of what makes your game so good. So their ad tactics are not what you need, you need people to get invested into your game and story, the only way is to be part of it.
To add to that... this is singleplayer game without any multiplayer features. If you want spike in sales, just contracts streamers and content creators for promoting. Nowadays people dont even see ads due to adblockers...
Also for mobile games, people use android simulators on PC in order to avoid all sort of spyware and ingame ads because its isolate any personal data due to emulator being virtual machine.
"All the mobile games have it!" is a HORRIFIC thing to say in response to concerns.
Please ask your players' opinions on a change like THIS in the future. You did it with DLC, why didn't you do it with something concerning third party software being installed on our PCs?
Considering I STILL can't access my mythic path's special forms/model changes when making a new character in Inevitable Excess, thus heavily hampering my roleplaying experience, and they've never once responded to anyone about the issue either on the Discord OR the discussions, I think it's safe to say that's not coming, because that's a more intensive change than fixing your model never updating to match your mythic path (in paid DLC, no less...)
Yea, the fact that they said 'commonly used in mobile games' was a majorly boneheaded move. This is not a F2P mobile game, and the industry practices typical in mobile games does not fly on paid PC games.
Like many studios. If you want publicity, i'm creating let's play for Kingmaker and WOTR and i already bought the games and the contents. I'm trying to explain the 3.5 rules. I just need more public. I'm a french speaker player.
Already aware of the issue, working on a fix. Thank you.
Industry standard is somewhat meaningless as an argument. Mobile games are notorious for both data gathering as a business model (fair enough, if you have a choice prior to installation) and being somewhat lax with regards to data safety. One could claim that those are "industry standard" as well.
To be perfectly honest, if this tracker had been part of the game at purchase, I would not have purchased it at all. It's really bad manners not to include an opt-out.
Besides, for players on Steam you should have such metrics already. We are not on mobile devices, remember?
