Favorite Companion and most hated Companion
I am safe in saying that Wrath of the Righteous is one of the best RPGs I've ever played, hands down. it also has an interesting amount of great and fun characters. One of the core elements in an RPG for me is companions as I am not a lone wanderer type I like to have someone by my side and not have to solo everything. That being said Wrath has some very good companions and some not so good.
So here are my favorite and most hated companions respectively, I am talking from a gameplay standpoint, a character standpoint and personal taste standpoint I encourge everyone to reply with their own choices the only things I ask is you consider all three factors that went into my choices before deciding and that you respect others and refrain from judging their opinions, remember this is a game that can be played in many differant ways and with that in mind depending on what your particular character and goal is the conclusions as to who is the best and worst in your opinion can be reflected by that.
Now for my choices. For my favorite companion (Non-Mythic as really only two paths get companions and in that case Aivu would win 10 times out of 10 because well she is the only Mythic companion with a character) of the main story line companions that has to go to Wendaug.
Now you may be surprised that I rate her as the best companion in Wrath, but that is for a number of factors, first gameplay wise she is easily the strongest companion in the game and most versitile she can also be built in any number of differant ways and she has a major stat advantage over most characters in the game; that being she has a very high iniative with the exception of Arueshalae and my character if they happen to have a high iniative state Wendaug will always move first and this that is a very key fact as sheer damage output from her is absurd, it does not matter what type of weapon you give her she will mow down entire groups of enemies with either a Composite Bow due to her high strength and Dexterity added to the composite trait, or with throwing axes, and should any enemy close the distance well she has the ability to wear any type of armor in the game making her AC extremely high with a dex bonus added to by the Armor training feat that her fighter class gives allowing her to negate armor penalties entirely and if they get in close she is capable of dealing just as much damage in close quarters as at range.
My other reasons for Wendaug is because I actually believe in redemption and mercy, I am also capable of understanding Wendaug's motivations and backstory and- well its pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and in ways that people don't realize because most people don't choose her and that's because emotion trumps logic in this day and age, she is evil but not irredeemably so and she is upfront with who she is which more then I can say about other companions.
As for my most hated companion. Its Lann plain and simple for a number of reasons, first being his class I hate monks as the idea of fighting without armor in any setting is just jarring and it makes me think "Hey one arrow or bolt and they're dead" but more then that I don't like overspecialized characters that are only good at one thing and especially when they don't even do that one thing in way that makes them better then other options; Lann is a Zen Archer a monk specialized entirely in ranged combat, two problems emerge here one his stats are worse then the other archer companions such as Wendaug and Arueshalae, his inititive is lower then anyone else in the game I've even had Seelah move before him in the turn order and for me an archer's role in this game is to get that first strike on the enemies and do as much damage to them before they can close the distance and the number 1 way to ensure that is to have the highest priority in the Turn order meaning that Wendaug is better then Lann as an archer thru her high iniative the fact that she has higher dex and strength then Lann thus increasing her damage output with any weapon she uses and then add in weapon training from the fighter class are her range damage becomes absurd.
As for non-gameplay reasons. Lann is a character I HATE by sheer virtue of being the embodiment of all the character traits I hate the most in a video game character: those being someone with a deathwish, someone who is lawfully stupid (I mean in the sense their moral code blinds them to reality) the obvious choice that the game is trying to get you to pick over the other and of course he is number one a guilt-trip character thru and thru and I HATE characters that try to guilt trip me in ANY game and try to get me to change sides because they claim they are in the right. Essentially Lann is all of these in one and on top of it I can't stand his voice, whereas I love Wendu's voice but considering she is voiced by the same actress who voiced Nyrissa in Kingmaker who incidently was one of my favorite characters in said game that's to be expected

Daeran's my favorite character personality/story-wise even if Oracle can be a little bit boring (powerful and necessary as a healer, but still, kinda boring until the lategame). He's a prick but he knows he's a prick, and unpacking the human being within over the course of the game felt rewarding and deserved. And despite being an unrepentant hedonist I thought he was actually really on-point with his observations and assessments.
Regill's up there too, he's a much welcome counterpoint to some of the good/chaotic leaning companions. He's brutal, but it makes sense to be brutal in a war against demons. Almost feels more like a harsh LN than an LE, really. Gotta admire a guy who remains dedicated to a thankless cause that is literally killing him. And gameplay wise it's fun to play with a DEX based fighter.
Woljif was a surprising standout too, I initially rolled my eyes at 'the CN tiefling Rogue' but the almost paternal relationship the PC can develop with him was really endearing.

I didn't pick up Wenduag in my playthrough and I'm waiting until Season 2 of the DLCs is done before I return for another. I dig her aesthetic and I have a soft spot for characters who aren't 'evil for evil's sake' but RP wise it was hard for me to justify taking her on.

Sosiel's boring to me even though his companion quest has a nice resolution. Didn't run him much because I always had Daeran.
Greybor felt underdeveloped.
I don't like Ember because I detest the fantasy trope of 'this elf is 100 years old but still a child' and her idealism is taken to such a silly extent... totally lost any interest I might've had once she started bawling in front of Nocticula. It's a shame because I really like her aesthetic design and Stigmatized Witch is a fun and thematic archetype they came up with.
Arue might be my least-favorite because she's so anime that it hurts my soul and most chaotic characters grate on me. Her stat block's ridiculous but I just can't stand her.

Favorite is easily Nenio. Do I really need to explain why? It's Nenio. :RoflOwlcat:

Least favorite, I think I might have to go with Camellia. She's just a bland murderous psychopath character. I don't find her at all interesting. Even Greybor, whom I agree feels underdeveloped as a character, has more depth and personality than Camellia, IMO.

Hm, i have to agree.. sorry man. But the wall of text is painful
No text formatting either..

But if i stick with title question only..My answer would be..
Favorite? All the girls..ok kinda not Camellia..just too psychotic and evil.
Hated? Well the opposite ofc, the men. I totally don't care about their life issues.. :steambored:

And to be frank, last male in games i listened to and was actually fun to talk to, was Oghren , dwarf from Dragon Age Origins.

I wish there was another Amiri in Wotr, her robust childish humor was lovable :)

Favourite would probably be Aru. I just genuinely enjoy kind characters.

Least favourite? Nenio. Easily. I hate her personality, her quest and everything about her.

I like a lot of the characters personality wise, it's the actual mechanics, their chosen starting classes, stat distribution, etc. that I hate.

Probably my favorite is Daeran. I like having an evil character in the party that isn't a hand-wringing, mustache twirling, "I'm going to take over the world" type. And at the same time, they manage to give him a sort of sneering charm that lives up to his high charisma.
Yow! Feb 18, 2023 @ 8:24am
I don't like council Lahn, and Sosiel still feels a too generic good cleric, but Cammelia is the worst, her dialogue commentaries are not interesting, even though it is feels inline with her personality.

Everybody else is awesome, i wouldn't know if Woljif, Nenio or Daeran for favorites, but probably Woljif?! Simply because "Time to share your treasures" is just too good...

I realy like Greybor for being out of the typical roster of good or bad that you see everywhere in the game. He is an interesting character with more depth in his personality than some of the other companions.

nenio and maybe Aviu any time they had something to add to the converstation was interesting even chuckled at

Daeran and Woljif. I love both of them.

Most disliked... I think Camellia is a bit problematic to me. In the sense of personality (I do think they did a good job with her diagnosis; I am not an expert in the field of psychiatry, though) . In addition I have found that I usually get Nenio and Greybor way less than the others. I would not use hate, though.

I refused Nenio in my first run but now I have her in my second playthrough. She is the type of character you need to get used to, especially in combat.

I personally never turned Nenio down, I fell in love with her at first sight, but that may be because as someone who has autism which Nenio also obviously has I can relate to her in ways other people can't which is why she's sort of gotten a tie between Wendaug, herself, and Arueshalae for who is my favorite follower.
As for least favorite Lann holds that with no issue for reasons that I've already mentioned but the chief ones being he's of a class that I hate and isn't actually that good at the role he's given in addition to being overspecialized which I really cannot stand, his personality and actions combine every single character archetype I hate in a video game character, also the guy can't even fit in with own species and calls them by a derogatory name given to them by other people instead by the name they call themselves. Though given his upbringing its not too hard to see why he doesn't fit in, but he certainly does NOT fit in with any party comp or character I'd play by sheer virtue of being a character that I'd utterly hate.
Say what you will about Wendaug at least she doesn't try to hide what she is, she wears it openly and is a lot more willing to give more information about herself then Lann is, even if you do have to sort truth and half-truths from lies, at least she knows her place and has ambition and doesn't have a death wish provided you treat her in a manner that make sense from her perspective and don't try to moral grandstand especially considering for me a lot of her decisions in events are things I don't have a problem with, yeah she killed a couple of crusaders for bad-mouthing me but in all honesty she did me a favor as I'd have had them executed to make a point anyway, as for the merchant problem I'm going to chock that one 100% up to cultural differences. But yeah point being I don't hate Wendaug if anything I just pity her and want to help her.

It's easy. All "good" characters is D tier as persons. All "bad" ones is mostly very decent folks (except crazy cam). Regil might come to MC's tent and imply in conversation that he and all his hell-knight legions might had his ways with MC's mom, and i not gonna be angry, because this character is well written, and well spoken. When he talk, even if you disagree with him, - he still makes sense, he has good arguments. But when this dumb cow Sheela open her mouth, even to praise MC, its so disgusting, because most of "good" characters in the game is acting like arrogant infant children. They spear head you into Messiah role, like you it or not. And then act shock when you tell them and their Ape god to piss off. And their argument usually boils down to "If you do as we want, you good, if you do something we don't like, you evil", - that the deeps of "good" characters. Listening to Sheela/Sosiel expressing their worldviews, is literally makes me cringe hard. Even LotR hobbits, whos at large treated Gandalf like a random bum, because he is not as important as silver spoons, or cow ♥♥♥♥ for the garden, - has been less intolerable dumb, than "good" chars in WotR.
