Areelu Vorlesh discussion
What do you guys think about her? I just finished a playthrough and, I didn't hate her, at all. She gives off an air of Dagoth Ur, not as charming or memeable but. Her motives and everything, I don't hate them. I don't agree with them, but she never is outright evil to me from my experiences, I know in the grand scheme of things her goal was incredibly selfish and caused the world-wound but everyone in the story hypes her up as evil incarnate, and I just couldn't feel that way about her.

I liked her so much that I ended up redeeming her as a gold dragon. She spent the end of her days watching the world-wound with me. I even vouched for her to Pharasma

What did you guys end up doing with her?

Agreed, she's hyped up in the game like some comical evil, which would probably be your own character if you go with the evil dialogue options presented in dialogue. Her actions were due to focusing on one goal no matter the cost and that goal was somewhat selfless.

On my first playthrough I said I was going to leave everything as is and walk away. Then Nocticula photobombed the scene and kicked her in anyway. Was funny.
Second time, I followed the ascension ending guide. Plan was to ascend with her. It bugged out and the game didn't recognize one of the requisites I had completed (owlcat plz) so she didn't accept. Then she jumped into the worldwound to close it by her own choice.

I understand why she was hyped from a story perspective, no one in the game actually knows why she did it, so they guess it was because of how she was treated, or that she wanted more power, etc and they make her out to be this selfish ambitious monster, which I suppose to a degree she is.

But her real reason is so simple and, well understandable. I don't like what she did, but I understand her motivations completely so I'm just left feeling sorry for her.

She's sort of a poor man's Irenicus.

Yeah that was my thought as well, especially after her lab.

I thought she was a pretty good antagonist though. Not really a villain, she's more sympathetic than Irenicus imo. Maybe because she's hot.

Definitely no Dagoth Ur though, I mean no one beats daddy ur, and there's not really any similarities.

I should've clarified more, she not on the same tier as Dagoth or anything, just that she's sympathetic like him.

Ah yeah, I can agree with that.

I enjoyed sparta-kicking her into the Worldwound as a demon. Her reasons rang hollow for me - I guess I agree with Regill on his 'traitor' speech. "Everyone is guilty but me, oh woe is me."

Too late so I answered wrong. This sounds good. What Id have liked to do.

Thought she was a psycho to be put down fast.

Edit: And Regills speech is perfect. Every murdering psycho / serial killer / butcher (and she’s all three and more) has a sob story.

I really like Regill speech too, and his loading screen quote "The forces of good aren't weak, it's you." But I just didn't hate her like everyone in the game did upon meeting her, what she did is wrong, but she is just so... Unassuming? I'm not sure for the right word, it was just hard for me to hate her.
I cannot imagine any redemption for her whatsoever. I have not done the secret ending fully, but from what I have seen I can't imagine why even non-good characters would want to live forever after with mumsy Vorlesh. If she was at least romanceable, maaaybe. Though I didn't find Nyrissa redeemable either. And it would become very, very weird, what with the soul and all. But I totally dig the entire mad scientist plot.

I am, however, unreasonably proud for calling her Our Lady In Cover.

(if I have to explain, it's a play on Nocticula, Our Lady In Shadow)

Killed her with my Honourable Good Upstanding guy. She’s pure evil and her son was evil and she brought it all on herself. Pity the Inquisitors didn’t kill her too.

Will kill her with my Powerhungry Selfish Evil guy. The b*tch thinks she can manipulate me? Make me some part of her plan? I’ll flay her alive and … blah blah blah. I really like creative descriptions.

As a player: she’s evil and deserves what’s coming to her. Her poor son excuse? Riiiight… She was a psycho before that and even if she weren’t ‘You killed my child so I’ll torture random people and children’ is the lamest sob story in existence.

Edit: Posting again since I now finished the game and have the whole picture.

She'd done everything right and I'm myself would do same in her place.

Some politicians decide they're allowed to turn existince of minor society group (arcana casters) into hell? Well, then don't be surprised to see what's like being in literal Hell (Abyss to be precise).

Opression just because "you're red-haired and so have no soul!" is atrocity on same level with Nazi. They get they're deserved.

Unlike Nyriss she at least offers some cool powers instead of pure trolling.

??? If you mean Nyrissa she made my character immortal? That counts for something.

And here she made your entire party into a god, something that is more useful and could help more people than you ever could.
I personally and as a character while disguised for her evil was willing to give her a pass. Because her evil while terrible is in the past and two she was a patsie for the demons. The world wound would occur without her actions, the demons would find another way to trigger. And she was for most of the game just a distant adversary ,that was annoying but less threatening than Miniagho for the present crusade and my party.
But was prepared to kill her and deal with her eventually.
The game already makes you to choose terrible choices, and work with terrible people especially in act 4 to progress the game. Even for a good run.
And how i decided to get the secret ending was because I find it cool and wanted. And Ive made some suboptimal choices for some companions(Daeron, Cammilla) and the secret ending got better for both themselves and for my morals.
But I could easily see how even a good angel can choose to work with Areelu at the end. You already work with demons, or are on friendly terms with some of them. And you get to permanently kill 2 demonlords and remove them permanently from circulation. Also working with Areelu was literally possible only at the end and it isn't something I wouldn't do if I knew it was possible myself. In the other parts it wasn't anything but investigating and not behaving as a bloody fanatic when I couldn't even punish her and I might find out more by being polite.
That is my two cents about Areelu Vorlesh.
She is a terrible person, but a person that helped my character and my party to remove 2 demonlords, stabilize the situation by preventing another demon invasion long term, allow my party to do the maximum amount of good for the maximum amount of people. And if she needed to be a karma houdini to achieve this it is well worth it. Well Areelu can get her comeuppance at the very end with Pharasma.
Also she was useful ally , that was working for the success of this crusade, in the shadows. That is what Ive felt anyway. More so than the queen.
