Exotics generally are better than martial weapons though, either for extra crit range or damage numbers. A Fauchard for example is literally just a better Bardiche, with 18-20 crit range instead of 19-20. An Estoc is just a better Rapier (2d4 damage instead of 1d6) etc.
I don't think taking an exotic weapon is terrible, especially if you're a race/class with lots of feats to spare (like humans/fighters). Fun is the best stat in the game though, so while yes you can just go "haha scimitar go brrr" every campaign I enjoy shaking things up with different weapon choices.
Fighters get lots of bonus feats overall, so its really not that big a deal for them to pick one up.
Apologies if the question is stupid but once you for example have a crit feat focus on weapon A, when you see the page for stats does the feat bonus apply that you can see?
>.> sometimes the game really loves to make it hard to compare stats/which is better ui wise
Also my god I wish I knew where other stats ui page was, wanna know if my initiative stacking is actually working etc

Also, go to "Weapon Type Comparison Table" at this link and you'll be able to see the base damage and crit ranges of every weapon type in the game. It's a handy resource that I'm pretty often finding myself panning back to when deciding on a weapon.
