I recommend video guides. The one by Slandered Gaming has helped me to make sense of the basics.

Finance points are used for troop, researching/awakening magic items, upgrading locations, almost everything.

Material is used mostly in building construction, upgrading locations (fort, bastion), awakening magic items, some of the crusade quests.

Energy is used in a few of the crusade quests and for summoning weekly troops once your mythic level becomes high enough (no all mythic paths give you the ability to summon troops),

i can only assume after searching around the internet that these can be used only AFTER conquering drezen

You can turn off crusade management in the option menu and set it to auto. Personally, I can't stand any of it and don't think you lose anything in the game with crusade management disabled. The game has way more than enough depth without crusade management.

Yup, couldn't figure out how to add more troops to my main army when starting out....was looking through the menu's EVERYWHERE...turns out you need to have the two armies in the same location, then a small circle appears next to the nameplates you can click to transfer troops.or you need to have your main army at home base. Why is one of the most needed mechanics of it so obscure...

I just turned it off for core...it's not fun, intuitive or rewarding. The turned based battles are shallow and the wall of texts are a slog. There's absolutely zero chance I would play it as a standalone why would I in game.

actually you need to use it to unlock the ascension ending.... so kinda is rewarding at least in that regard....

i'm still trying it but cannot figure out how to defeat armies too powerful for me at this point ---so i cannot get to drezen OR heart of the mystery

i dont understand ...i defeated all armies that i can the others left are just too powerful for my level and i'm stuck now ...i don't get it

why do this to a great game?

I agree and I find the boat battles in PoE 2 ruined the games pacing as well and why 1 was so enjoyable...Why add a mini game to an already complex game....It's not needed and just gets in the way. I'll admit WoTR's implementation of a mini game was better but it still sucks. I just wanna play my main characters and fight ♥♥♥♥..

But in your situation waiting and gathering more troops may be the answer...also make only use one general and one army at that point in the game. Make them as big and strong as possible....but each week you get more troops...just add them to that one army.

Finance points are used in Act 2 (i.e. before Drezen) to recruit more troops. You can use gold to buy finance points. I think recruiting a general also costs finance points, but that's a one-time expense - you only want one general at this point in the game.

Material and Energy points are only used after Drezen.

You ... are ... concerned about resources? In a computer game? Like, is this the first time your parents have let you play a game? For real?
Drake Apr 17, 2023 @ 7:09pm
Resources are resources. You don't need to know what they mean, you just need to have the amount to build or recruit what you need.
Like if some troops need finance, you buy finance points to buy the troops. If a project needs essence or materials, you buy that.

Mostly, finance is the crusade money, you buy most things with this. Materials are usually used with building buldings in forts and upgrading them. Essence is almost exclusively for recruiting mythic units (like elementals, devils, demons, angels etc.).
