Crit Range for Ray Spells
Hi everyone, doing a sorcerer crit ray build and have taken "Improved Improved Critical (Ray)" from 3 levels in loremaster (took "Improved Critical" on 1st level) but it doesn't seem to work.

If the original range is 20, the second range is 19-20 and now the third should be 17-20 right? I've run some tests and I'm not critting on a 17 but I was on an 18. What gives?

Hmmm I didn't know that, I was under the impression that the second feat would increase it to 17-20. Thanks for answering

It was fixed in the last big patch

I believe it's supposed to be 18-20 with both, but regular improved critical should double the new range to 15-20.

Improved critical only doubles the base range. So if the base range is 20, improved critical only increases it by 1 to 19-20. Trickster feats will stack with this, but not increase the base multiplier.

I don't think spell damage is supposed to be multiplied on a crit to hit, pretty sure the crit value is just for when the attack automatically hits the target.

Increasing the crit range of a weapon still only automatically hits on a natural 20, I'm pretty sure, and it's just that the multiplier for damage aspect of the crit applies to the damage roll.

Perhaps the mythic one acts differently. And I could be wrong.

Spells do get crits. Any spell that rolls an attack roll can crit. So Rays and Melee spells can effectively crit. More noticeable when playing a class like the Magus in my case (Eldritch Scion). Since spending it mostly at melee and using rays and Touch spells often. Things like fireball and lightning bolt will never crit.
