Treasures of the Midnight Isles (loot and chests question)

I'm pretty new into my first run (only level 3+1 mythic)... I notice there is alot of junk loot which I can't even sell because your run ends if you ask to go back.. what's the point? Also, why are there two chests on the ship (adventurer and helmsman's)? Thanks in advance!

After you beat a map you go back to port and you can sell all that stuff and stock up before heading out again. Note that when you beat the first and second of the three sub-bosses (the first one is called star rattle and is huge so it'll be clear when you reach him) your party will run off and to continue you will have to hire a new one. That is intentional.
