I started out with a similar impression to yours. "What does this thing even do?"
Aeon provides bonuses to this and that, yadda yadda, I'm sure they all do. What really defined my run's power in a way that was different from other paths was the Bane on weapon attacks.
It turns out that the difficulty slider does not adjust the DC to dispel ♥♥♥♥.
It was very easy to dispel ♥♥♥♥.
One single hit dispelled most ♥♥♥♥.
A full round of attacks dispelled all ♥♥♥♥.
Any enemy without any good ♥♥♥♥ is just crap.
So anyway, thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
Perhaps I should save Aeon for another run or respec for Kinetic Blade.
I remember that I used the bane on playful darkness and dispelled his buffs with spells because they also add on the dispel. You just need a ranged touch attack which my particular caster had. I remember that the first run with aeon I used one of their spells to make myself invincible or something like that. That was a very weak run though because I focused more on banishment. Also you get really good immunities IIRC with Aeon. Gazes are good and I think about making a run here and there with it because they are untyped bonuses that stack with everything.
I think aeon might be one of my favorite but I hate the court cases.
Apparently the kinetic Blast will trigger it as well, so you get an AoE effect for it.
I'd say it could be good times for everyone involved. At least your party.
Eventually Aeon gets stuff like immunity to physical damage and gets quite the glow up at M8 with unlimited gazes and move action casting.
Gazes are flexible untyped bonusses. Great for boss fights and yes it's a free action.
As mentioned Aeon excells at dispelling, only outclassed by legend with advanced talents.
That and they have one of my favorite mythic path themes.
For most all other classes it removes anything that could stop them from dealing damage.
Aeon is the path that just gets the job done, no fancy stuff, you just shred mobs.
Lower enemy defenses, make them take more damage, make your team attacks get higher bonus, dispel EVERYTHING from enemies.
I've done Two-handed fighter Aeon run and it felt much easier than my sorc Azata did.
Aeon resistances are through the damn roof.
The only non-standard thing I had to do is get selective metamagic. Otherwise Zero State nukes your own team.
Unlimited gazes for rank 8 means that if anyone actually resists gaze, just cast it again. It's free action!
And then there's also Aeon cloak...
