Am I missing something or is Aeon weaker than the other Paths?
So, my character targeting Aeon is a Kineticist, making the whole "is Aeon weak" a bit of a silly question since Kineticist itself is rather strong. I just want to get that out of the way, and make sure people don't think I'm whining about my character being weak.

That said, I also have a Lich +Arcanist character. The Mythic Spellbook alone seems to outstripe everything feature the Aeon gets up through MR 10. Fact in things like SR 25+MR or DR 10/- and it's a clear winner. The Gazes and Banes do seem strong, but even if they were unlimited immediately, it still doesn't help enough. Then there are the spells in their spell books.

Looking at other Paths, the Angel, Trickster, Azata... they all seem better.

Am I missing something, or is the Aeon just a gimped Mythic Path?

I recently completed a Last Azlanti Unfair run with Aeon, Sohei archer build.
I started out with a similar impression to yours. "What does this thing even do?"

Aeon provides bonuses to this and that, yadda yadda, I'm sure they all do. What really defined my run's power in a way that was different from other paths was the Bane on weapon attacks.
It turns out that the difficulty slider does not adjust the DC to dispel ♥♥♥♥.
It was very easy to dispel ♥♥♥♥.
One single hit dispelled most ♥♥♥♥.
A full round of attacks dispelled all ♥♥♥♥.

Any enemy without any good ♥♥♥♥ is just crap.

So anyway, thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

So it's strength is in being able to dispell effects as an attack rider? Hmm, I did miss that, but that doesn't help my Kinticist. (Which, as mentioned, doesnt need help, but it still feels kind of bad.)

Perhaps I should save Aeon for another run or respec for Kinetic Blade.

I like the aeons for their ability to kind of work with anything with the gazes. Mythic spellbook angel is busted that is true. I didn't get much out of lich because I was just trying to focus on being a blaster rather than using the lich spells but getting them sooner was good. I didn't like the undead companion because it didn't heal with the same spells. Haven't really played through with demon except one short run that I didn't complete. Trickster is alright. Their bonus feat abilities are decent I don't know how they compare with others. Azata is a pain in the ass. Giant dragon that takes up 1/4 of the screen that you keep accidentally clicking on. Superpowers limited. The +10/+10 is op though.

I remember that I used the bane on playful darkness and dispelled his buffs with spells because they also add on the dispel. You just need a ranged touch attack which my particular caster had. I remember that the first run with aeon I used one of their spells to make myself invincible or something like that. That was a very weak run though because I focused more on banishment. Also you get really good immunities IIRC with Aeon. Gazes are good and I think about making a run here and there with it because they are untyped bonuses that stack with everything.

I think aeon might be one of my favorite but I hate the court cases.

Untyped bonuses, you say? Oh. That is one hell of an oversight on my part!

Also if I recall correctly gazes are a free action. Which means you can just do them for free anytime. Though maybe they are swift action. I don't remember. I think you can only have one up at a time originally.

Yeah, they're free actions. Eventually you can use three at a time.
Oh yeah if spells trigger the dispel that will do lots of work too. A single hit dispels most stuff, after all.
Apparently the kinetic Blast will trigger it as well, so you get an AoE effect for it.
I'd say it could be good times for everyone involved. At least your party.
I thought it was decent with Kineticist because you get that gaze that makes your party immune to your AoE effects meaning you can just throw around Walls, Cloud and Deadly Earth willy nilly.

Eventually Aeon gets stuff like immunity to physical damage and gets quite the glow up at M8 with unlimited gazes and move action casting.

Is the effect of Bane "snapshotted" at the time of casting? That is, if you cast something like Deadly Earth with Bane active, does the effect persist for the duration of Deadly Earth even if Bane falls off?

Gazes are amazing. There's so many different effects and you can activate them as you wish per battle. They are limited of course which sucks, but you can use them to give +4 caster level party wide for those juicy 24h buffs that are normally per round as long as you have just 1 extra caster level from another piece of equipment. Which are pretty plentiful.

Gazes are flexible untyped bonusses. Great for boss fights and yes it's a free action.

As mentioned Aeon excells at dispelling, only outclassed by legend with advanced talents.

I did my aeon run as a sword saint/duelist. Mixing gazes with the ability that makes all attacks touch really made him tear through some very strong enemies. I think aeon goes well with most melee classes.

That and they have one of my favorite mythic path themes.
Drake Apr 29 @ 2:53pm
Kineticist might be the only class that doesn't really benefits of aeon, except for aeon spells (aeon spells are OP).

For most all other classes it removes anything that could stop them from dealing damage.

Aeon is the path that just gets the job done, no fancy stuff, you just shred mobs.

Yeah, I'm mostly interested in the theme.

What would you suggest, then, for a Kineticist?
Melee Aeon is incredible.
Lower enemy defenses, make them take more damage, make your team attacks get higher bonus, dispel EVERYTHING from enemies.

I've done Two-handed fighter Aeon run and it felt much easier than my sorc Azata did.
Aeon resistances are through the damn roof.
The only non-standard thing I had to do is get selective metamagic. Otherwise Zero State nukes your own team.

Unlimited gazes for rank 8 means that if anyone actually resists gaze, just cast it again. It's free action!
And then there's also Aeon cloak...
