Was Solsei being sarcastic?
In Act 3 when you face-off against the hag with Arueshale, the hag on defeat exclaims we're being rude and brutish. Solsei then responds:

"Pardon me, [playername], but I have a sneaking suspicion that a monstrous mistake has been made, and that we are threatening an innocent old woman with retribution, when her only crime is to have settled here in these very sinister ruins for reasons known only to herself. Please tell me I'm wrong."

If it was anyone else I would know it's sarcasm, but this is Solsei, he's very straightforward and rarely rude. Am I overthinking this?

Interesting way to spell Sosiel.

Sarcasm. Yes even Sosiel can do this. Why wouldn't he?
Nah he just rolled a natural 1 on his WIS roll

Probably. Solsei was racist to Lann a couple seconds later, so I got the impression he was being serious.
Yeah, that saying could be considered sarcasm if it came from Daeran. ;)

All group members function as parables or embodied allegory in the game. That is, they serve as synonyms for some kind of human type, worldview, philosophy or ideology.

Sosiel represents the typical do-gooder: naturally good-natured, but naive in many ways and having great difficulty living up to his own ideals in everyday life.

In this respect, this is probably less sarcasm than pure naivety, intended to demonstrate his unworldliness and wishful thinking.

Good on him, siding with a frail and innocent elderly grandma. Gyronna would be proud of Sosiel.

What did he say that was racist?

Solsei made an off-comment about Lann being pure despite being a Mongrel and Lann cut him off and called him out on his "inner purity" bs. Solsei also makes a lot of off-comments about Lann being "cursed" and other borderline racist remarks during camp rests.

I mean it isn't racist. Not everyone is human in pathfinder. So it isn't the same. You have things that are just evil. It is pathfinder's and dnd's fault though for making human breed with everything. It kind of makes things blurry.

Lol, that's not racist. Lann is a super snowflake though. He takes nearly any comment towards his person as an insult and you're just going along with that.

I think he was not being sarcastic but genuine

like his beliefs and all are always about trying to put people on the right path.... and he wont hesitate to listen to others and try to resolve things in a peaceful manner... unless its personal that triggers him that is...

so when she went on about how they treated her and claimed to be a victim type of thing.... he started going into his "cleric mode".... and was questioning if what he was doing was right or not....

afterall... in comparison to his first companion quest....

the necromancer when defeated was gloating about the evil he committed and was obvious in his intentions.... he didnt play the victim card or anything so it was clear he was evil

the hag when defeated wasnt gloating.... played the victim and didnt gloat or anything.... she was nicer than that cultist in his quest.... and she wasnt "acting" evil.... so she pretty much fooled him

If he was being genuin then he would be the dumbest party member ever. But that's impossible, because that's Nenio. It's a Hag and an Annis one at that. Physicially very easy to identify. Evil and cruel. Including deceptive and devious.

So no, Sosiel was not serious here. It's be like Deskari in Kenabres saying he just came over for tea and then saying oh no guys we made a mistake. It's just an old lady wanting some tea.

the guy is not very experienced with the real world....

I mean yeah him being higher level and all but he spent most his time within the church being trained.... even during the attack on the city in Act 1 he was sent away to protect him instead of having him stay and fight....

plus his first companion quest shows how he still has a hard time with judgements.... all that clerical training and he starts beating an unarmed man.... while he might have had a reason to deserve it.... the fact is he was not mature enough to keep himself in check from risking breaking his vows....

also he is highly critical of the hellknights who are allies and yet very accepting of Aru with no questions asked.... even though Aru's rap sheet is leagues longer than any hellknight's....

also intelligence and wisdom are not the same..... Nenio is intelligent but lacks common sense and understanding of normalcy pretty much..... Sosiel is not smart but wise....

which even breaking down what he says makes sense.... from a wisdom point of view

"Pardon me, [playername], but I have a sneaking suspicion that a monstrous mistake has been made, and that we are threatening an innocent old woman with retribution, when her only crime is to have settled here in these very sinister ruins for reasons known only to herself. Please tell me I'm wrong."

in this case everything he said was true...

the hag wasnt there to be a threat to the commander... her sole purpose was to target Aru.... so the reason why she "settled" down in those ruins was to lure her into her trap... she had essentially done nothing to the commander or the fifth crusade that would have warranted a personal visit from the commander and party...

so he had a feeling something fishy was going on...

all before you found out that Aru had manipulated you into hunting her down....

Well you're totally free to have that opinion. I rather have the opinion that he was joking, which Sosiel does do, and that he's not an idiot. Just because this is his first Crusade doesn't mean he doesn't do sarcasm. I met plenty of homebodies that use sarcasm all the time. Plus Sosiel's INT is 10. Which is not being an idiot. Now if his INT was 8 or lower then you'd have a case.

And no no, Nenio is an idiot. Her INT score is a ruse. It's an illusion she cast on herself or has someone else cast on her. She probably forgot. I mean, she believes she is smart and therefore the illusion works and allows her to cast high level spells. In reality she probably has an INT score of 8 or some such.

And when you put it like that, he was technically right. The hag had created a situation that would bait Arue into coming, but there was no way for him to know that.

I agree with your take that he is naive to a flaw. In Act IV, the man is somewhat oblivious to the succubus flirting with him. Seelah has to step in and lie to get her to back off. It is an amusing scene.
