What level should I do midnight fane

I am level 12 and just started midnight fane.

I started at level 13 and finished as 14. Darrazand took me a few attempts(needed to figure out how to shut down the Mariliths from casting Blade Barriers on my backline) but otherwise it went smoothly. Didn't even try Playful Darkness yet.

Yeah, leave Playful Darkness for later (eg 16th or 17th lvl or so, after you've finished Colyphr Mines).

Level 12? You must be skipping quite a bit to reach it there. I'm not quite there yet in my current playthrough, but I'll be level 14 by the time I even start it. So long as you're running even a half decent build you should be fine though.

I seem to recall I was L14, or very nearly 14, when I started the Fane. 12 seems a bit premature to me and makes me wonder if there's some Act 3 stuff you haven't completed yet.

There is mostly the gold dragon quest cause that bugged out on me

The gold dragon quest in act 3 consists of basically nothing, at a guess you're missing at least 2-3 sizeable side quest areas, since you're more than a whole level back.
