Before going to the garrison just talk to him and redo your char.
That said, about respec, don't abuse of it. Some abilities can be broken by respec (there is just to much abilities to be 100% sure there won't be a bug when removing some properties from a char.).
Still, depending on the difficulty, you can multiclass your Sylvan Trickster into something and make him a decent tank.
Aw, man! I totally misunderstood that. I spoke to him once before and when I selected the training thing, it looked like I was making an entirely new character. I guess it really lets you totally remake whatever you're playing then, if you want? Or perhaps I chose the wrong option. Either way, I'm in the garrison now, I'll speak to him at the next opportunity! Thanks for clarifying!
It's actually both. Hilor can add a new henchman character to the party and respec characters.
