The benefits and drawbacks of size?
Apologies for seeing my name pretty frequently in generals; first time playing this kind of game with purely dnd stats as of WoTR’s full release.

As the title says— what’re the benefits and drawbacks on size? The ingame encyclopaedia does an awful job at explaining this.

Currently on a primalist run using the abyssal bloodline for demonic bulk as my second playthrough and while I enjoy the connection/lore elements, i’m unaware of what exactly is happening outside of an increased reach on my MC when I use Blood Rage (and wether the OP-ness in act 2 compared to an arcane lich will continue or eventually leave me with some post-nut clarity)

you hit harder and can reach further, but you're easier to hit cos you're a bigger target. that's it in a nutshell.

the complex mechanics are seriously just there to simulate that happening.

There's a couple of effects:
  1. Your strength and constitution go up (due to size) Depend on the specific effect that made your size increases, this may be in addition to the benefits listed, or the benefits may be included in the effect description. You'll need to examine your character sheet to be certain.
  2. Your AC goes down
  3. Your speed goes up (I"m not 100% certain about this, but I think its correct)
  4. Your reach increases (as you've already noticed)
  5. More (normal sized) opponents can attack you
  6. If using natural weapons, your damage goes up

I think that's it.

Your speed doesn't change, although using *any* weapon increases the damage.

One of the way the 'experienced' players get so much damage is by using enlarge/legendary proportions/frightful aspect etc in conjunction with lead blades/hurricane bow - for example, enlarged Arueleshae with Hurricane Bow does 3d6 base damage with a long bow, instead of 1d8.

Right, getting a higher damage die with every weapon in the game is the main benefit from being enlarged and the main reason you generally want your strength-based damage dealers enlarged.

98% of women agree. Size does matter. Better to be larger then smaller.
