**SPOILER** Romancing Arueshalae (Aruaru) Guide
This simple forums guide (currently work in progress) is for all those who want to improve their relationship with the beloved demon companion named Arueshalae in future playthroughs.

I highly recommend you not to check on these details for your first playthrough, unless you are okay with denying yourself a unique shivers-giving-experience.

While it is a work in progress not only feedback but also help is very welcome. I do not know when or if I get around to screenshot every dialogue with Aruaru, not knowing without cheating which is actually a trigger for failure of the romance.

================================================

Basic information

■ Aruaru is chaotic neutral
■ when you recruit her she is at least level 8 Espionage Master
more details about her abilities and (class) feats you can find here: https://pathfinderwrathoftherighteous.wiki.fextralife.com/Arueshalae
■ she is a worshipper of Desna blessed with a special boon which teleports her back to safe haven should she suffer a lethal attack in battle

For the observant role player it seems obvious yet to be clear: there are hidden like/dislike counters for each companion character which take note of your decisions and dialogue choices ingame. You must not, by all means, think the game wants you to exhaust all dialogue options. You may even want to turn off the moral alignment pointers with the options for a better role play experience.

In simpler words: no matter if you make a right choice in dialogue later on, if you tripped a failure trigger you are done with the romance. This applies not only to Aruaru.

■ Aruaru cannot have a happy ending with you if you are going for Aeon, Demon, Lich, Swarm or secret mythic path

■ it is absolutely crucial you get all of her companion quest right, since each of them except the first one have triggers to fail the romance

■ corrupted aka evil Arueshalae is not interested in romance

================================================

Step 1 - Helping those who heed her words

Arueshalae's voice is the mysterious voice you get to listen in Act 1. She warned the priests of Desna of the attack. Helping the priests with the quest Starward Gaze is a big step forward in getting closer to her by embracing the Azata mythic path (chaotic good). Accept (and take note) of the gift you can acquire.

Though she can be romanced with other mythic paths, she is clearly attracted to Azata.

================================================

Step 2 - Making divine contact

In the area of Lost Chapel you can find a shrine of Desna and three artifacts related to that shrine. One is already at the shrine, the other two can be looted closely and in the cave. This is where the gift you got before comes into play. After placing all three artifacts on the shrine you can trigger the melody of Elysium which brings you into contact with Arueshalae. While there is not much yet which you can do, it will be a memorable moment for her.

Extra: If you cannot play with sound on, you might have troubles with playing the melody. At the shrine of Desna hit the buttons in order middle, right, left, middle

================================================

Step 3 - Rescuing Arueshalae from prison

During the Drezen siege you can access the prison dungeons where Arueshalae is being kept. If you managed to successfully contacted her before at Lost Chapel, you can recruit her right away in your party by embracing the Azata mythic option.

While having her in your party she will make clear later on - at the time you raise the Sword of Valor - which mythic path choice she will support you with and which will push her away.

If you did not manage to contact her before rescuing her from the prison's dungeon, she will part ways with you at that point of the story. You will get another chance to recruit her later on when she visits you in your dreams to join her for her companion quest.

================================================

Step 4 - Get to know Arueshalae while being considerate

As your companion you get the chance to learn more about Aruaru. It is unclear how much impact it has towards the romance, but let us assume it is an essential part of building a relationship. Though she might fall for you despite you not showing any interest at all towards her.

Be considerate towards her past as well as be supportive without tempting her demonic nature. It might not lead to instant failure of the romance if you imply your desire for intimacy, but it might add to the overall counter.

To be on the safe side it is best to respect her wishes about topics she want to avoid.

================================================

Step 5 - Camping for friendship

There will be three companion specific dialogues after you have visited and resolved the main quests in Wintersun, Areelu's Lab and at Ivory Sanctum.

Those dialogues can only be triggered by camping. Aka rest in an area outside of safe haven, not via worldmap interface.

The progression of her companion progession can be measured by the event when she puts herself into prison, and by triggering her companion quest to ask your acquintances and friends about their dreams.

================================================

Step 6 - Convincing her to leave the prison

When she put herself into prison, pick the supportive dialogue options. That way you can convince her to stop that behaviour and get her out of prison instantly.

The necessary dialogue option to achieve the goal will reveal itself when you picked the correct dialogue options. Again: do not try to exhaust all dialogue options. Beware of the trigger which will might lead to overall failure of the romance.

Hint: Quicksave is your friend.
You can make your friend strong by setting a higher number in the options for farther backtracking.

================================================

Along the way there will be a few more dialogues and cutscenes. They may not have an instant feedback impact, but they could add to the counter. Stay supportive and considerate towards her, and it should not lead to a romance failure.

Examples:

- Aruaru seeing a beggar in demon city and gets reminded of her past.
- Aruaru asking you not to take her into the brothel with the perverted lock (or is it the lockpicker who is the pervert one? oh my...)

================================================

Step 7 - A dream on fire

When you help her setting her dream ablaze, make sure not to get rid of the anomaly entirely. Talking about the table here which is not related to someone elses dream.
That table will be part of her very own dream which is not adapted by information of others.

================================================

Step 8 - Love overcomes sorrow

After you helped Aruaru burning all other objects with the exception of the table, she asks you for your help once more. Once more you will enter her dream world and protect while she tries to sleep and dream. That is when her deepest sorrow will threaten her.

To complete the essential steps of the romance you may tell the personified Sorrow that you love her. It will wake her up and break her shackles.

================================================

After this consider the romantic relationship established in full after you meet Iomedae.

Placeholder for not knowing how many characters this guide will have and how many Steam forums allow me to post in a post

I don't remember hearing her warning about Kenabres, when in the game does this happen?

The cutscene triggers when you approach the temple of Desna for the first time at Kenabres - Market Square.

Legend Path also works fine, no problems.

This should do it. If anyone feels something is missing, feel free to comment.

how do you trigger the beggar scene in act4, where is it exactly?
solthusx Oct 17, 2021 @ 9:29pm
Just want to add that taking Arushalae to Areelu's lab also triggers a post camp dialogue with opportunities to gain/loose 'trust points' with her.

I believe she needs to be in the party that goes to the lab for this to trigger as it involves a certain event in the area that reveals the party members' secret desires.

You are right. I added that to the guide. Thanks!

The scene is suppose to trigger with the upper left (map perspective) entrance of Bad Luck Tavern.

Does anyone understand why the characters are supposed to bark after sex?

I'm a bit confused on whether I was successful or not. Both she and Sosiel showed up in my chambers early in Act 5 demanding to know which I chose, but I had not yet done the last part of her companion quest in the dream. I did do it, and it seemed like we are set up for romance. I mean, her dream now is to have a home with me, and we even kissed, so.... at least it seems to me like I've romanced her. (I'm still mid act5, so it's not like I've finished the game for official cards at the end.)

That said, I didn't do everything perfect. I didn't play the song at the lost chapel or get her out of Drezen early. I had to recruit her in Act 3 instead. However, I am on the Azata mythic path, (and a worshiper of Desna myself), so I think that alone naturally puts me on better footing to be with her. Most of my dialgue choices in general tend towards Chaotic and Good alignment. So I don't think you need to do everything perfect, it's not like this is some secret romance. You do have to take it slow with her though. There are definately some dialoge choices when talking to her that would terminate romantic chances. Being pushy too much about wanting to romance her when she's still scared of temptation, or likewise declaring that it would be too much temptation to go down that road, are probably both bad ideas.

I will also say, she was not in my active party a lot. My standard active party was myself, two mercs, Seelah, Sosiel, and Nenio for most of the game. so yeah, there is still a lot of give in the romance option with her. You don't have to follow everything strict.

AFAIK, the Lost Chapel event and rescuing her in the siege of Drezen aren't strictly required, they're just additional opportunities to gain trust with her

Question, when does she put herself in prison in step 6? I'm in act 3 and have cleared pretty much everything and am just about to go through the Ivory sanctum. I'll be leaving act 3 shortly after that but do I have to just hang around and skip time to trigger it? I've followed pretty much all the other steps up until then.

For me it happened shortly after clearing Ivory Sanctum.

You can just let her in prison during the Drezen siege.

I wasn't springing any demon succubi during the siege so I left her in her cell. No problem with the romance.

Very good point. I will think of a different phrasing to make it more clear about the hidden like/dislike counter I have mentioned. I was not aware that the guide still sounds like you have to do everything exactly as written, despite my note.

I was thinking lorewise it would be after being in Areelu's lab where Aruaru was confronted with her vision of lust and desire. But I am uncertain seeing solthusx had a different experience. It might be such a thing where multiple approaches are possible.

That is correct. To get an early "trust-boost" if you will, and access to the hints during the Sword of Valor cutscene.

A very good note too. At some point I was sure, if she decided to stay there it is because you are too pushy and failed the romance already. Though there were neutral dialogue options along the lines.

I'd say yes. I didn't hang around for a Lann event -not romance related- and got 'screwed' after.
