Beast Rider
I just started and the wording feels like it works similarly to hunter taming pets in WoW? 2 questions:
1) Will I be able to tame more than 1 pet? I see the same icon as animal companion but it's crossed with some archetype thing
2) Are there any "Exotic" (borrowing WoW terminology) pets like dragons etc I can tame?

I loved my hunter and excited at pet customisations!

no (you choose one when you take the class) however there are some items with can be used to add extra follower animals, and no, dragons and such are locked behind certain mmythic paths aswell as dragons in dnd terminology are more intelligent than humans so pet dragons would make no sense

that said, it is possible to get a pet dragon

cavalier sucks and mounted combat as a whole is pretty underwhelming.

with that said, if you still want to play mounted i recommend either full gendarme for horse or take 3 levels in hunter and then go full gendarme afterwards so you can get a triceratops or boar which is much better than a horse. albeit you'll lose the better charge from gendarme.

REALLY!! Cause in WoW you could tame unique raid bosses with some patches!

I went with a wolf beast rider... just because. Had to wait till level 7 to actually ride him since I picked a half-elf character and had to wait for the size upgrade.

But i'm glad i didn't pick anything bigger. I've seen alot of people in reviews mention this... but the big pets like the triceratops and the mammoth are just plain too big for most of the narrow corridors and dungeons the game takes place in.

Even playing with the item that gives you an extra triceratops pet made me realize this problem... XD

Theres also the undead merchant you meet sometimes, he has two Nightmares, sorta implies they would be mounts. Dont know how to get one though. I thought maybe when building the stables in Drezen you could at least buy mounts.

So basically like WoW, pet AI is kinda broken now? Pet pathing was also a issue

I finished the game on Normal, with a raptor riding gnome cavalier, wielding an oversized +5 dragonkilling longspear, in my team. Because the rule of cool is more important to me than "competitive" choices. :Owlcat_wink: :LaughingOwlcat:

Of course, if you go for a run on Unfair, that's another story...

I have the triceratops, and he does get stuck sometimes though the trample feat helps since it goes through blockages in real time. Otherwise I just play turnbased and the Triceratops gets to where it needs to go. Its extremely satisfying to knock enemies flying across the room with it while they wail ineffectually.

I went on to this discussion to look about mounts and NihilVerum is right... at first I had no issues. But after marketplace I continue to have issues with moving my character who is mounted. He just won't move and I keep having to deselect and re select him.

I tried and it seems similar to the problem faced in D2 where minions could cause blockage and pathing issues at doors

There's another way to mount dragons, via brown transmutation class

But there's no animation for the dragon riding so your character will just be inside the dragon.

Not sure how you'll look when you ride the Azata dragon though
