Is Lann's default class good?
For some reason -well for the reason that they've always seemed useless to me- I hate monks. So in my first run in the beta I changed his class to demonslayer. Was happy with that but I've been getting the impression that his default class is really good?

Opinions?

Thank you!

Edit: To clear up Ill be playing Core.

One of best DPS classes in the game as single class.
He will do most killing in your party in early acts of the game.

If you are playing unfair that is maybe different story.
But I play on custom somwhere around core- daring, and he does a lot of dmg still.
Once he get clustered shots he's a monster on bosses. (around lvl7 he can shoot 5 times in a turn with haste)
Mythic abilities archers get are all also really good.

What? They may not be munchkins but they're fine.
I only switched Lann out when I got Delamere

Zen Archer is amazing. Lann does incredible damage with it. He rapid fires arrows at full monk damage, even when in melee range without issue.

Especially once you give him the Cleaving Shot mythic feat. He just explodes groups.

Yes it is good. He is a good ranged DMG dealer. I am at the end of chapter 2 and he is sold DMG dealer with good feats.

Zen Archers are among the most powerful damage dealers in the game just pure-class.

That's why I multiclass him with Hunter to tone him down a little bit, and it's appropriate for his backstory.

Thank you very much everyone! That's what I wanted to know. I'll keep him as is :)

@Jack Will remember to pick up the feat! Thanks!

I don't personally multiclass characters. You can buy arrows at different times in the game to make Lann effective against anyone you will face (coldiron arrows, for example). I mean, if you are going to have a non magical ranged character, Lann is perfectly fine in that roll.

In this game with the backgrounds and the different specialties for each class, i don't see the need for multiclass .. although, obviously people get to play however they want and there is no right or wrong way to play.

Just like people get to pick Apple or Android phones, Intel or AMD CPUs, NVIDIA or AMD GPUs, Mac or PC, XBox or PlayStation, etc.

Do what you like .. but I am fine w/ Lann.

Zen Archer is fine, but hes also really good in other classes, you cant go wrong with Lann

That's good to know cause I enjoy his personality and will probably have him with me in every play through. :)

He's so good as Zen I've just kept him that on every playthrough even though my normal inclination is to build companions differently each time.

Turn him into a psychokineticist, or keep him as a Monk until level 7 or so and then respec him as a psychokineticist. Dropping AoEs that bypass: AC, SR, saves and resistances is a much better use of him than an Archer, particularly considering the stat blocks of some of the enemies in this game.

Zen Archer isn't bad, but probably not as good as some of the sneak attack archer combinations or caster options for him given he has a 17 Wisdom.

Edit: he has a 17 STR, DEX and WIS, and he starts at level 1 with a monk level. You can really do anything you want with him: melee, ranged or caster.
