You beta-players: Which god is most appropriate for my paladin?
I'm not that familiar with the Pathfinder gods, but I have been reading up. I understand that Iomedae is the most straightforward, knight-in-shining-armor, paladin-y of the good gods, but there already is a paladin of Iomedae in the party lineup.

I'm looking at Sarenrea as a second choice. She's clearly a Big Deal in the setting's backstory and overall pantheon, and was apparently the one who spearheaded the fight against Rovagug. I also like what I'm reading about Shelyn, although Kingmaker demonized her and her church in a really weird way that seems to completely fly in the face of canon.

Does one's choice of deity come up in the game itself, as more than an access to spells? Does it feature in the role-playing at all? And do any of the three ladies I mention make a better fit than the rest for the story of Wrath of the Righteous?

Considering you need to be lawful good to make a paladin, there is no much choice. It's going to be either iomedae, sarenrae, torag, shelyn or erastil.

If not iomedae, the most logical choice would be sarenrae.

Are you saying that because those two are the most paladin-friendly in the pen-and-paper lore, or because it fits the video game story?

Both. Iomedae is the goddess wanting the crusade, can't fit more the story than that, she's asking you to go there. And sarenrae is the good goddess that protects the world so it good with it.

The others would work too, but wouldn't be that close to the plot. Erastil and shelyn would kind of work becasue they're good deities so it's in the resume, torag also (like go tend to the armoury to help the crusade). But irori and abadar, I don't know, it would be odd.

If you would stray to pick inquisitor or warpriest instead of paladin, you could pick a NG inquisitor or warpriest of pharasma, which is the goddess of fate and the anti undead one. Her being worshipped in brevoy and ustalav (which are just close to the worldwound), would make an interesting background.

Iomadae would make the most sense, even if there is a paladin of Iomedae companion already ( and it doesnt matter that she follows the same god anyways)She is directly linked to the crusades and the Queen follows her as well .

Every god has its own description and if you want to dive deeper there are a lot of descriptions on the internet if you are interested

If you want to maximise your mount/pet then I'd go for one with a nature realm, otherwise "law" and "good" are decent realms against demons.

Gorum will be the god for my human male Bloodrager character in this great looking game.

Iomedae is a major deity of the crusades. if you plan to RP a local that is the one i would go with. if your playing a dwarf though Torag would probably be a better fit.

Yes choice of diety comes up even if you are not a divine caster.

Example is dresna you get dialogue choices, extra lore, and such in the quest to unlock the Azata path.

If you praise to the god of alcohol you get a buff defending the tavern in the beginning.

You can't either in 2E. You can only be an antipaladin of gorum, just like in 1E. While the champion class is available to good and evil characters, the paladin cause is still restricted to LG.

My Stonelord will worship only rock and stone to the bone.

Speaking of this! None of the paladin gods in the first one had greatswords as their favored weapons if memory serves. I really hope they fix that.
