Seelah also a Pally - dang
But my PC is a Paladin!, with a Two handed sword. I don't min/max these games, and I have the party set to auto assign at level up. Kind of want to be the only Paladin, as I don't want to mess with making sure our skills don't overlap. I am obviously new at the game.

If I make her another character class, won't the dialogue be all messed up? (She is a Paladin after all)

Do I ditch her, and if so, will I meet another party member to help with the heavy melee duties? Thanks!

Your two best option would be to either wait for Regill and replace her or make your paladin a tortured crusader as their abilities work well whit another Paladin.

I just got done with the Maze - when does Regill join?

You get him fairly early in chapter 2 so you'll be around level 6-7.

Thanks

Seelah makes a good Skald. If your PC is a Paladin Archtype you may be sufficiently unique as to be non-redundant as well - "Martyr" is basically a mounted Bard for example.

In regards to dialogue multiclassing Seelah won't change anything. It doesn't even violate RP really as the game locks her 1st level as Paladin. So she is never NOT a Paladin in a literal sense.

Is there a particular Skald Archetype that would work well with my generic paladin?

Base Skald was overall considered the strongest until Inciter came along. Both are really good - Base Skald might be better for a newbie since you have more rages to choose from (IE you can experiment more and have some leeway to choose "badly")

There are really good class analysis videos online. The playstyle of the uploader may bias it so it may be worth checking multiple videos. CRPGBro is a personal favorite but Mortismal Gaming and Slandered Gaming are good watches too.

Addendum: If you go down that rabbit hole I recommend thinking of them as more "suggestions" and ways to expand how you think of the game mechanics. While I like CRPGBro's class build videos for example I've never actually copied his builds. He's introduced me to some mechanics I've never experimented with in the past though.

You could just continue using Seelah as a Paladin. Having more than 1 frontline healer/tank is never a bad idea

thank you - I hope to keep it simple or all I do is watch videos and second guess everything I've done :steamfacepalm:

I am considering that - as I said, though - am concerned about overlap/redundancy between her and my PC

Yeah I feel ya. I noticed the "Kind of want to be the only Paladin" and missed the "party set to auto assign at level up."

The other thing is that you can technically build any single class radically differently. I suspect Seelah if auto-level will progress as a Sword and Shield Longsword Specialist with Weapon Bond. If you are something like - A Mounted Two-Handed sword user - Your Paladin will play radically different despite you both technically being Paladins.

You will have overlapping spells and the like. But it doesn't take long before you have >5 companions.

Thanks again!
I'll just keep an eye on how the game levels her up and adjust my PC to be different. I don't know of any info or sites that gives her build if game is set to auto level her.

You can still go with 2 paladins. After all, you're on a crusade against demons and the class is pretty powerful as it has good bonuses against chaotic/evil enemies that are numerous.
I'm playing myself a skald that'll go trickster as I want a specific character to join my crusade and I've never played a skald. The class works pretty well as a 2-handed buffer. With some illusion spells it's tanky enough. Seelah has pretty much the same attributes I value for the build so making her a skald is a good option as mentioned. She should be fine with most melee builds though.

Keep 2 levels in Paladin, then go Warpriest, if you have enough Wisdom. Warpriest is pretty thematic. Or you could go inquistitor. But again, you need at least some wisdom.

As someone said before Tortured Crusader is a good combination with Seelah as a normal Paladin. However even two Paladins can work. I personally prefer Tortured Crusader since it's a different from Paladin, but still gets Paladin features. Also gets Fighter feats so that's cool.

Do note that Tortured Crusader is not affected by Smite Evil enhancing mythic feats and equipment. That's a bug that needs to be fixed.
