Elemental Ray and Winter Witch prestige
I am looking to play a three party Damphir group.

My main I was looking at an Elemental Witch and then noticed the Winter Witch Prestige Class.

My question is, for those 10 levels of Winter Witch, will my Elemental Ray class feature stop getting added damage dice every 3 levels? :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

Yes it should stop gaining power unless the prestige class specifically states it continues the ability. You will continue your caster progression and hex progression.

You would have to try it to see how it actually works, lots of bugs still

The way it's written I agree, it will not increase as it's a class ability in a class I am no longer taking because of Prestiging.

Kinda sucks because I was going to use that as my primary weapon with spells. Not worth taking the Elemental specialization and losing hexes if I do Prestige. May just do a normal Witch and go Winter prestige.

I still think there is merit. Cantrips are best early game and fall off later, so losing a bit of damage later isn't that bad and you still get to boost cold spell level. IMO a WW losing hexes isn't that bad either, due to your boosted cold spell level and dc, you want to be casting cold spells over hexes anyways. Winter's grasp is going to be amazing the moment you get it until the end of the game (as long as they are not immune).

Also, I only take 6 levels of WW as the 8th level limits your damage if using metamagics, so no loss if you don't use them. But after 6, imo you do not get much for 4 levels of ww, you get the half damage is otherworldly and 1 more dc, in the first 6 levels you get +2 dc and +2 caster levels. So if you only do a 6 level WW dip, you only lose 2d6 of cantrip damage, worth it for me.

Thx for the stat break down my friend. I'll jump in and build it today when I get home from work and give it a go.

My other two will be a Titan Fighter and a Sable Company Marine. I was thinking of going the undead mount route for the Hippogriff since my three characters are Damphirs. Just worried about his HP, but I think I can manage.

One big thing for winter witch is the extra DC. Very helpful for icy prison and mass icy prison. Basically turn them into bidget "phantasmal killer" and "weird". Paralyzed enemies are dropped to 1 dex, so you do 1 dex damage and they die. Not that paralyzed enemies are hard to kill anyway.

Today I see it does in fact continue to progress in damage.

Lvl 6 Elemental Witch
Lvl 3 Winter Witch

I do 4d6 damage now with my elemental ray.

I do not recommend going past level 6 in the Winter Witch class where you unlock Unearthly Cold.

Like you I was trying to build an icy witch/lich using that class and elemental witch, mixed with a dip into crossblooded sorcerer to turn any elemental damage spell into cold (this includes spells with the sonic descriptor (i.e. wail of the banshee doing cold damage)). With Unearthly Cold, it took that same spell that could do over 300+ damage into something that dealt less than half, with half of that damage being cold and other being untyped.

Winter Witch itself is fine, just do not level it past 6 or else you will be flabbergasted as to why your damage all of a sudden sucks.

Yeah, you have to watch out for little quirks like that in the game. 1/2 Untyped damage is a big one. Another way to bork a build is mythic weapon finesse.
