EDIT: That isn't true in real life. A lot of people get to a peak. Then they go down.
Correct - they should be thought of as future plate mail -especially red ones. Copper dragons too - burnished copper looks so good on me, and tarnishes with a lovely green patina.
... and coming from the same person who claims a moral high ground in the gold dragon thread.
Also, this is a prologue, it sets the ambiance of the story. Demons attacking a city slicing the protecting dragon like it is melted butter. The protagonist, a nobody inferior to that dragon gets a shot at the demon and manage to touch it. An epic story can begin.
To be fair Khorramzadeh is CR26 which is on par with some of the demon lords.
