The spell has 2 damage formula.
If the target fails the check, the spell does 10 damage per caster level.
If the target succeeds on his check, the spell does 3d6 damage + 1 damage per caster level.
Maybe the spell is cast at caster lv 1 and not your actual wizard level, which in that case it would only deliver 10 damage. And in that case, you get more damage from the target succeeding the check, since 3d6+1 can be better than 10 damage.
Or the spell comes from another source ? Are you using if from a scroll crafted at CL 1 ?
I'm using the spell i learned from levelling up. Based on the description, the Finger of Death is a level 7 spell with a DC of 37. With my current character i now have a caster level of 16, 24 spell penetration, and 30 concentration
i feel like i should be doing at least 150 damage, even before levelling up to level 16 (which i am currently now)
Ohhh that could be the case since i actually learned the spell from levelling up...
hmm might gonna find a way to remove the spell using toybox if i have to (if it even possible lol i don't know) cause this is just dumb :/
Another spell with this issue is Sense Vitals. The issue was introduced with the archetype bloodseeker that uses spells as supernatural abilities and the spell level scale with slayer level instead of caster level (since slayer and by extension bloodseeker does not have caster levels)
Okay so i removed the FOD using toybox, and then added a new FOD scroll which i learned after and its now working as intended. 160 damage on a 16 caster level character
Thank you very much :D
On the level-up screen, there are two versions, but both are spells. The difference is the range. One version targets a creature within close range, but the other version targets a creature in any range. The correct version should be the close-range spell, but I haven't tested it (not selecting it as one of my choices).
