Finger of Death doesn't seem to work as the description said. Am i missing something or what?
So im currently a level 16 Wizard focusing on evocation. And i want to try on using finger of death just for ♥♥♥♥ and giggles, and according to the description of the spell, it delivers 10 point of damage/caster level.

which would mean that i should be getting 160 damage if the enemy fails the fortitude save

however, everytime i use it, i only get 10 damage all the time. funnily enough, failing the fortitude save gives me more damage than if you actually save from it

weirdly enough, applying the expanded arsenal mythic feat gives me 20 damage for FOD so i honestly have no idea what is happening right now

Unfortunately there's a bug that lets you select a supernatural abilities as a spell. When levelling your wizard you have the option to learn the spell from a scroll or select it at level up. Do not select this particular spell at level up because then you may pick the supernatural ability which does not scale with caster level. So learn it from a scroll and use that one. It should work as normal.

Report the bug with alt+B.

The spell has 2 damage formula.

If the target fails the check, the spell does 10 damage per caster level.
If the target succeeds on his check, the spell does 3d6 damage + 1 damage per caster level.

Maybe the spell is cast at caster lv 1 and not your actual wizard level, which in that case it would only deliver 10 damage. And in that case, you get more damage from the target succeeding the check, since 3d6+1 can be better than 10 damage.

Or the spell comes from another source ? Are you using if from a scroll crafted at CL 1 ?

I'm using the spell i learned from levelling up. Based on the description, the Finger of Death is a level 7 spell with a DC of 37. With my current character i now have a caster level of 16, 24 spell penetration, and 30 concentration

i feel like i should be doing at least 150 damage, even before levelling up to level 16 (which i am currently now)

It's likely the spell is actually listed twice in the level up screen and you picked the wrong one. Or worst case there is only the bad one.

Another spell with this issue is Sense Vitals. The issue was introduced with the archetype bloodseeker that uses spells as supernatural abilities and the spell level scale with slayer level instead of caster level (since slayer and by extension bloodseeker does not have caster levels)

Okay so i removed the FOD using toybox, and then added a new FOD scroll which i learned after and its now working as intended. 160 damage on a 16 caster level character

Thank you very much :D

Apologies for 2-week necro (surprised it has only been 2 weeks - feels longer to me) on a thread that's been answered - finally made it far enough in my game to see what's happening.

On the level-up screen, there are two versions, but both are spells. The difference is the range. One version targets a creature within close range, but the other version targets a creature in any range. The correct version should be the close-range spell, but I haven't tested it (not selecting it as one of my choices).
