How do I take burn with Kineticist?
I get how the class works completely.

But for the f***ing life of me, I can't figure out *how* to actually accept burn. I've gone through 2 and a half chapters now with Ember at 0/4 burn and it's starting to irritate me.

Whenever I try to use an infusion or whatever, it doesn't let me because she doesn't have the burn to do so, so it's not like it's applied automatically.

Gather power does nothing. It's supposed to reduce burn cost, but it doesn't actually give me any burn.

Gather power reduces the burn you get. If you're gathering enough power in relation to the abilities you're using, it possible you're just not getting any burn. Try turning it off and using a burn heavy ability. Do you not see your HP change?

Mental Prowess (Su): An overwhelming soul’s mind is strong enough to protect her body from the stress of channeling the elements. However, in exchange, she is unable to push her limits quite as far as other kineticists. She can’t choose to accept burn, though she can use wild talents with a burn cost if she can reduce that cost to 0 points with abilities such as gather power and infusion specialization. If she would be forced to accept burn against her will (for example, if she fails a concentration check), instead of taking burn she takes 1 temporary negative level, which never kills her and can’t be removed with restoration or greater restoration, but which disappears automatically after 24 hours. At 6th level, once per day, she can reduce the total burn cost of any wild talent by 1. She can use this ability an additional time per day at 10th level and every 4 levels thereafter. This ability alters burn and replaces internal buffer.

Overwhelming Power (Ex): At 3rd level, an overwhelming soul gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls with her kinetic blasts. The damage bonus doesn’t apply to kinetic blade, kinetic whip, or other infusions that don’t apply the damage bonus from elemental overflow. This bonus increases by 1 at 6th level and every 3 levels thereafter. This ability replaces elemental overflow

Are the Kineticist archetypes getting reworked, or will they be just as close to RAW as they were in Kingmaker - that is to say "strictly worse in every way except the knight for melee builds"?
I understand wanting to be faithful to the source materials, but...

Close to RAW as they were in Kingmaker - that is to say overpowered long range artillery that can kill a significant amount of most encounters in a single round once they've unlocked Deadly Earth.

This is why I chose not to utilize this class, because of the silly OP ranged nukes I could use to almost wipe out the entire encounter within 1-2 rounds tops. Yes, it was "fun" but became very boring quickly.
